So, I was wondering whether anyone has heard a sound difference between adding an 80ohm adapter to make a 4P into 4S and directly replacing the 4P cable with a 4S.

Before getting the etys I would have said these are most definitely the same. Now, after hearing the microscopic property of the etys, I'm not so sure...

Purely from what i've read on the boards, the 4S has got a more refined

treble than the 4P, which after listening to the 4S can sound grainy

I'd never have thought that the 4Ps sound bad... I'm gonna have to get my hands on one of these fixup cables myself one day to try!!

Oh, I didn't finish typing the title. I mean there's two ways of converting the 4P to the 4S, adding an adapter cable or directly replacing the 4P cable with the 4S cable. Would they sound different? Has anyone ever heard any difference?

The ER-4S is showing it to you.

A few people posted comparisons of Fixup 4P cable + 4S adapter vs Fixup 4S cable and didn't notice a difference. I tracked down a couple of people privately and confirmed this. None the less when it came time for me, I decided I didn't really need the 4P's capabilities and just got a standard 4S cable. I do think the 4S sounds much better. I also think the Fixup cable is much less microphonic and probably better overall than the stock cable, although I've not compared them in AB. The higher quality resistor being located in the plug makes more sense and also makes the tiny headphone even more portable.
