Hey Guys,

Im building a new computer and would like some suggestions on a sound card. I maybe running lunix so i might need something with good driver support. Ive narrow down my choices to either the Bluegear card, the Sondigo, or the modded x-fi. Im still on the fence on the modded x-fi as I am not a huge fan of creative's driver support. Are there any other suggestions that you guys would recommend? I will mostly listen to music and watch movies, and I will hook up the HD-595 to the sound card.

Take a look at this list of Linux-supported soundcards:

I'm not aware of any X-fi drivers for Linux, although I think I read somewhere that creative promised to release them. Doesn't look like there is any support for the new C-Media chipsets, so Bluegears/Sondigo may also not be the wise choice.

My favorite "popular priced" sound card is on the linux supported list - the Ego Sys. Juli@..........it can still be found in a few places for $129, but is frequently priced now at $149. Always stay far, far (and let me add an extra - far) away from those Creative cards (any and all variants).

Don't know what is supported by Vista - I'll never load that bloatware-in-DRM-land on a machine of mine.
