From Sony's CD3000 page-

Plug Self-cleaning, gold-plated stereo UniMatch®

How does it clean?

Maybe it is just a marketing ploy for the gold plated plug- which prevents oxidation so basically it won't tarnish/rust. Either that or :twirls finger beside head & whistles:

the gold plating is tough and prevents oxidation when you pull the plug in and out of devices. heh, yes, it's just very stupid marketing ********.

grinch, iirc, gold is anything but tough. gold is one of the softer metals, but extremely corrosion resistant. nickel, however, is tough, which is why it covers the other 50% of the plugs in the world.

anyhow, it's still marketing ********. another entry in the marketing lingo bible, joining luminaries such as 'powerful bass' and 'studio reference model'.
