So much for Team Sony :

"An old adage has it that "when Sony sneezes, the whole electronics industry catches cold." If that's so, there could be an epidemic brewing. Sony's profits plunged an astounding 98% in the first quarter of its current fiscal year. Thomson, Samsung, and some large retailers also reported big drops."

Their music division is and has been operating at a loss.

Lol.

I wonder if executive payrolls are even factored in when they make decisions on how they should improve profitability.

We're talking about profits, not revenues.

IE compared to before, they are almost breaking even(the big corporate sofa that they keep their cash in for expanding the empire is about staying the same)

edit: total revenues are around a trillion and a half yen, their total sales only dropped around 7%

A big part of this is the decline of playstation sales that started in the 1st quarter of this year.
Believe it or not a big part of sony profits comes from the playstation.

Could this be because of the fact that most of the stuff they make is utter crap?

Maybe people are catching on...

guzzler,

Not all of Sony's DVD players are "excellent"; in fact, most of Sony's lower-end DVD players (that includes almost all of those available at most electronics superstores) are utter crap.

They're extremely unreliable, breaking down just after their relatively short warranty expires - and then Sony wants nearly full price just to repair the units.

I like their laptops. Using one right now as a matter of fact.

My dad just got back from Best Buy with a Sony DVD player and home surround sound system. Here's hoping that doesn't break down too soon..
