I have a feeling Jude had a listen to these.  That's why I keep hoping for a response to our pings.....

Jude might response. I am more curious on how these phones will compare to the 7520 since I have that. Another reason is that Jude is quite familiar with the 7520 sound giving a good point of reference.

I also had DR-Z7 at 1978. It was narrow ranged compared to modern headphones, but I remember that listening with DR-Z7 was fun.

It is quite an engaging headphone. If you still have it, maybe dredge it out and give it a listen with modern source gear: I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Hi guys, I'm excited to hear the new new Z7!  I just ordered mine on Amazon and it said it should be shipping out some time early October.  I'm going to do an unboxing on YouTube when I get it to share with the world.  I don't how they will compare to the Sennheiser H800 when it looks like to these are closed headphones?  Supposed to have a very airy sound.  I used to own hd800 (twice) and both times I just couldn't handle the brightness.  If this has the accuracy and wide sound stage of the hd800 with the bass and less brightness then we have a winner!

I tried the HD800 also and I did not quite like them. The treble seems to be a bit off, not realistic.
Some of the previous review statements  on the Z7 standout for me.

highly detailed like my 7520

scales well with music with wide dynamic range  like my 7520 and better than my other Sennheiser cans.

From my point of view the Z7 sounds like it could be a soup-up 7520 with larger drivers, case and pads.

Finally in the comments selection one user stated that the Sony Z7 is Wow and at least close to the AKG 812 which by the way cost almost $1400.
While I was planning to try the HE-560 at the RMAF but I am keeping a close eye on this.

Has anyone with a large head tried these?  Every headphone I own needs to be fully extended for my great brain.  I wear size 8 baseball caps. peace

Until users have these headphones in hand it is a open question. However there is a clue on the Sony UK web site showing a guy in a chair wearing the Z7 and you will noticed that he did not extend the headband at all. It almost seems that the headphone is at a point of being big as far I can tell at this point.

hmmm

Looks nice, wish it was wood but for a 70mm driver, I might just deal with what ever it is, my only question is in regards to the Cable Termination, what is it going into the headphone, and I'm curious as to how easy or difficult these will be to make balanced cable fore. I'm REALLY hoping it's not a 3.5mm going into one side,

IF it is how ever 2 3.5mm ins, one for each side... that would be passable. Hmm and for the price I might have to grab these when I can afford em. Here's to hoping they are a step above my W1000x [chances are they r]

so it would appear that it is a 3.5mm into each side... here's to hoping I can get HiRose 6pin to dual LEFT Right 3.5mm cord made. I have a feeling it wouldn't be too hard

I guess my last question is who's going to be the first to make wood cups for them, I mean, who doesn't buy a $800 headphone, then spend another $600 modding it ;3

My understanding on the MDR-Z7 is that is comes with two cables and one one is already balanced with two 3.5 jacks that will go into the new Sony PHA-3 for balanced operation. The other cable already has four wires but termnated to single ended 3.5 jack with an 1/4 adapter. The jack going into the headphone is a 3.5 with a screw-on connector much like on my 7520 but on both sides. Not sure it is the same screw-on on both. A slim 3.5 jack may work into the headphone. That's what I can find so far.

I would feel much better pre-ordering the Z7 if I could hear some more comments from Jude.  I hope he's not obligated to save comments for a future date.  Which would seem odd considering the product has been officially announced....
