It's been a wile but I believe around $110.00 for the Blue Dragon. How much did it set you back? I'm looking for a non audiophile priced cable but still using decent materials. Sadly audio anything is outrageously bloated in pricing.

Does anyone know the pin/sleeve configuration on the X5's stock balanced cable? I will need to know the L - L+, R- and R+, and ground (?) for the stock cable trs sleeves and then I can solder that onto a 2.5mm trrs. I think at $110 I'll just make my own short jumper, unless someone makes em for $30ish
$110 was for the adapter or for the entire IEM cable with TRRS termination?

you can use a multimeter to find out easily what the sleeve configuration is, that's probably easier since they all tend to be different.

Good stuff guys. $110 for a new cable is decently priced. Is it stiff or a soft cable? Any pics? I'm very interested but not if it's a full headphone type feel cable.
Great link on the adapter as well!.

I recently got the Therium Silver OCC cable for the Z5 from Norne Audio and have been using it very frequently. Wow... the results are great! It doesn't change the overall signature/characteristics of the Z5, but it adds better separation between notes, a little more clarity, and bass detail. I feel like the Z5s are showing their true potential with these. Really excellent stuff!

I placed order for the sony balanced cable MUC-M12NB1, hoping for better SQ than stock w/4.4mm adapter

Hope it is better than the sony kimber one
It will be different, as the stock is plain OFC, while this is Silver plated copper StarQuads. There will be a little more detail, and it's nice indeed.I placed order for the sony balanced cable MUC-M12NB1, hoping for better SQ than stock w/4.4mm adapter
The Kimbers use thicker gauge OFC, so this will offer the same bass as the Sony one, but with a warmer signature. a tad less treble.Hope it is better than the sony kimber one
It all depends on what your preference is. I have all those cables you mentioned above.

I meant better in the following scenario, some have reported the mmcx of the Kimber becomes loose very easily
I've not experienced that myself. so far the connectors are good.I meant better in the following scenario, some have reported the mmcx of the Kimber becomes loose very easily

I guess if you don't change cables too often, the connectors will be fine. The frequent plugging in and out will probably cause premature wear and tear of any connectors, but I have seen some users comment of the Z5 more prone to that.

Anyone have recommendations for a nice aftermarket 2.5mm trrs cable on the z5 for $80-150? Not trying to spend more than what sony asks for their upgrade cables.
Does the x5 benefit from going balanced? Just got the fiio x7ii and it has a more powerful balanced out. I do however have the upgrade 3.5mm trs cable from Sony already so the z5 might be at its max pot.

If you are keeping the X7II as the only player and using your Z5 exclusively for this, you could consider re-terminating the 3.5mm plug into a 2.5mm balanced plug with the Sony Upgrade Cable. That should be safely within your desired budget and still have some budget left for online purchase of hi-res music files.
