I'm looking to get a new CD/SACD player and posted a few days ago about suggested models. I'm just about to move into a flat so not entirely sure whether I can lump up £600 or so all in one go. Well, I probably could but I'd prefer to have some extra ready for all the tax etc. I'll be liable for.
Anyway, I'm considering buying one of either the Sony XB940 or XB770 for around £160 (second hand) and then getting it modded by Audiocom for about another £300 or so, upgrading some bits and adding one of their Superclocks.
That of course brings the player to just under the price of one of the new XA3000ESN players at around £590.
Assuming it makes no difference in terms of cashflow, which one represents the better buy? If I bought the XA3000ESN I doubt I would be upgrading it, but who knows in a year or two's time.
Buying the XB770/XB940 appeals because I can spread it out a little easier (as well as being 100 or so less), but if the XA3000ESN would compare to them with mods, maybe it'd be better to go down that route?
Anyway, all thoughts appreciated
