I feel it is time for me to replace my cheap JVC NC80 noise canceling headphones. Portability is no issue, but COMFORT IS BIG. I will be ordering either of them from DBL, a wholesale company. The XB700 is $75 and the Denon's would be $70.

I mainly listen to Punk/Ska/Rock/Metal etc. and would like bass

through an un-amped iPod Classic.

Which should I get?

D1001's are extremely comfy.. a bit bassy and driven perfectly unamped.

Sounds like just what you want.

The XB700's are good for the price and very comfortable too.
IMO, they are very good unamped.I regulary use them with my ipod touch.

I think you won't be disappointed.

+1. I couldn't agree with you more.

They are extremely easy to drive.

The Denon is commonly recommended when people ask for something closed in its price range. The XB700 is not brought up often here, though I heard they can be surprisingly pleasant when amped properly. FWIR unamped they aren't great, though.

I haven't tried the XB700 but I have tried the D1001 and it is a great pair for its price point, so at $70 the bang/buck is ridiculous. I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed if you get them.

Also, the search function is your friend.

^I did search around, but the XB series is fairly new, and the results were pretty mixed. Some say the XB700 is nothing special and hard to drive, but some say that they're extremely easy to drive with great sound quality. However, the people who have tried both seem to favor the XB700.

I did a search and didn't find any of this. Do you have some links?
