Weve all been through it, I went through it when I was figuring out how I was going to carry my RSA THAWK , ipod and e500's around..

How to strap all your gear together and then how to carry it around? then thinking so this is portable hmmm...

When I bought my a818 my thinking went digital

my dream rigg

a818 + Bluetooth Amp + shures

Do you get where Im going with this? No more wires no more straps no more bulky rigs. Portable in your pocket , amp with phones connected in your carry bag..the ability to change tracks without taking out a brick.

But alas....Bluetooth amps are nowhere to be found...well good ones anyway...I found this one

JK Audio REMOTEAMPBLUE wireless headphone amplifier - BSW Professional Audio Gear

but its crap

I dunno if old schoolers like rsa could make an amp with a high quality sreaming bluetooth component, the a818's have the ability to stream high quality lossless audio via bluetooth apparently, if only i could find a good amp!

i might be ignorant, but i think it might still be a while until bluetooth can offer the same quality as wired products.

Amen.

Thats a good 'opinion' mine was the same.

but if your talking digital bt (not rf oir any crap like that the real deal) vs analogue the only difference is the wires.

high end amps and source components and speakers have come about with bluetooth connectivity

why not portables?

Because the high end portaphile market is so niche its confined to this and a few other forums, if someone with some knowlege coud grab a bluetooth chip put it into an amp and sell it. I will buy it :S

I recently was part of a studio fit out for a tv studio here in australia for a morning show where bands would be performing live...atm for live performances which are prerecorded and then played with a 15min + delay each morning they are using beta max tape which is automatically captured and timestamped but for audio there is a simple bluetooth reciever connected to a apple final cut pc and editing studio, I mtoo tired to go on an on but the sound is streamed to the pc with no wires...and guess what? the audio quality is better. If im gonna get flamed for my dreams then i'll just shutup but cmon is there not any possibility i could be on the train on my way to work listening to sound coming thorugh an amp with a blue tooth reciever ???????????????????

oh the humanity

that is precisely why my portable gear consists of a shuffle and an ER4 ONLY.

The problem holding back hi-fi Bluetooth audio is currently technical and financial.
Bluetooth A2DP audio uses the lossy codec Subband Codec (SBC), which further compresses audio before transmitting it. Also, there are royalties associated with using Bluetooth audio and various codecs that may discourage wider adoption.

Lossless Bluetooth audio has yet to show up in a widely-available consumer device, and may present RF shielding challenges vs hardwiring.

Have you heard about bluetooth codecs like 'SOUNDabout Lossless'?

""Since SOUNDabout Lossless utilizes the same resources as SBC, it can be integrated into existing Bluetooth 2.0 products as a firmware upgrade," explains Burns. More specifically, OINA sees the availability of the new codec in products as early as 2008."

there are others as well i blieve

Sounds good, but wires are probably better, but i doubt most of us could hear the SQ difference.

What about a player that supports a remote with a screen for now, so you dont have to pull out the brick?

Dont know if the sony supports a remote though.

Or buy a bluetooth reciever and plug it into the amp. Increases bulk, but its not a problem if its in your bag.

If you are not using lineout then keep the amp volume high and the sony's output low so you can change volume on the player.

Here are a few recievers to plug earphones/the amp into. Some are like clips for earphones/handsfree, but some are bigger and cheaper with better battery that you could stick in your bag with the amp.

There are some handsfree kits with removeable earphones but some are only mono. These all look ok, one handsfree style one but removable earphones.

DealExtreme: $23.29 Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP AVRCP Stereo Music Receiver and Handsfree (Black)

DealExtreme: $27.20 Nanfone T11S Bluetooth Headset

DealExtreme: $28.50 BS-309 Stylish Stereo Bluetooth Earphone and Headset (6-Hour Music+Talk/160-Hour Standby)

DealExtreme: $24.92 2-in-1 Stereo Bluetooth Music Wireless Earbuds and Handsfree with Playback Controls

DealExtreme: $26.81 2-in-1 Stereo Bluetooth Music Stereo Earbuds and Handsfree with Playback Controls

DealExtreme: $23.90 Clip-On Stereo Bluetooth Headset with Music Controls (6-Hour Usage/160-Hour Standby)

DealExtreme: $23.29 Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP AVRCP Stereo Music Receiver and Handsfree (White)

Free worldwide shipping.

Please check the reviews and topics first to check they are all stereo, have interchangable earphones (i think they all do) and good audio quality. The controls on some would be useful if you put your player in your back back and control from the BT reciever clipped to your clothes, but if you keep you player in your pocket and the amp and reciever in your bag, you can control and see tracks from the player. The larger controll-less ones are cheaper and probably have a bigger battery.

Have a look at them all.

Wireless will never trump wired. Its just not going to happen, not unless they can solve frequency leaks (which I don't think can happen). I mean wireless can sound damned good, but not on the level of wired. The two are just not comparable.

i think freq leaks only happen with rf wireless

digital such as bluetooth dont have the problem (think 1's and 0's...its all about the switching and reciving of data)

and I love wires qables, cryo's they are awesome

I agree with u , a remote would solve the problem and the fact is these lossless bluetooth codecs arnt even on the market. Once they hit the space it will be interesting to see what manufacturers do to their harware lineups...or not...maybe ill resserect this thread next year
