SONY WH1000XM3 - better than QC35 in noise cancelling?

I upgraded by using a quality equalizer to trim away all of that bass bloat, which was considerable. Why Sony would craft such a messy stock tuning I'll never understand.

I cut a fair amount of bass bloat away and I would still characterize my XM3 as having plenty of solid bass output.

And the WH1000XM4's have arrived! Setting them up now...very similar in looks to the XM3, but the ability to hook them up simultaneously to 2 devices is a HUGE addition IMO!

But are they tuned any better?
Nevermind...
" However, the XM4s take sound quality to a new level, producing a wider soundstage and uncovering even more layers of detail than the XM3s."

It's sad that no one seems to have an opinion about the tuning of the latest firmware update for the XM3 model.

Did anyone update to 4.5.2 on the WH1000XM3?

I think they sound better now! There is less of that extra boomy bass and more clear highs and better soundstage.
The whole idea of pushing a firmware update to change the sound of a pair of headphones is wild. What a time to be alive. I haven't updated by pair since I started using them, better look into this.

Does anyone get a lot of sweat on the ear pads? I am using the stock pads and there is a good amount that I have to wipe after 30-60 minutes of use. Asking because I haven't found much around the internet.

Yep, especially in the summer. I don't go out much these days, but I'm not sure if I would use the XM3s outside :D

Probably because firmware updates aren't intended to effect sound quality at all.

That would be an idea, but I heard the difference myself, and I also found others who did the update and noticed similar changes, after I heard the difference myself, and without me asking about it or anything like that.

Sony did this before, at least with their digital audio players. Take WM1A/WM1Z for example - each one of the released firmwares has a slightly different sound signature. Even just changing the region of the player brings a slight change to the sound signature.

I've been getting some sweat on my ear pads (both through normal use and when I use the headphones at the gym on occasion). I usually wipe the ear pads down before storing them after every use and they've held up fine.

Yes for me as well. I don't use them for heavy workouts for this reason. I occasionally wipe the earpads down with a damp cloth when they start to look bad. I assume its because the headphones need a hard clamp to improve noise isolation
