Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)

Jesus :fearful: plus test everything out with different iems and headphones that people may have. What you guys have been using nowadays with these Walkmans? I've been looking for the new IE900 but they are quite an expense.

The Ie800 sounds beautiful with the small ones (A3x/A5x) though as I understand the ie900 is a different beast.

These DAPs handle well anything I threw at them - D5200 (my daily driver), msr-7b, even the HD6xx though the latter benefits from more power. All the etymotic (and Klipsch) earphones I have go very well with these, as well.

I think nobody got to test them all until we settled on something, at least for a while.

You don't have to do all tests quickly - this way there'll always be something to do when you feel like it :D
That's actually well thought. 2 a 3 weeks with same version of the firmware and swap after that.

I actually liked the IE800 but the non existence of a removable cable was a deal breaker for me.

I just wanna say this, thanks to @MrWalkman we dont have to change/spend too much for different Module like Cayin or Ibasso DAP (not that we have that option anyways). This 4 tuning is already like 4 different module and all you have to do is change it in setting file and restart it. Gosh i love my Sony DAP!

That's actually a neat idea, if the tunings would be called "modules" :)

1A on WalkmanOne WM1Z - MX3 - PlusV2 - alt dac disabled really reminds me of wm1z's note thickness while having a dynamic sound but not too energetic as to stray away from its organic nature. A very delicate balance between warmth and dynamics!
This! Maybe is because it reminds me of "the old days" and is easy to recognise! I'm a big fan of FEv2, bright seem a little bit too boosted in the top area and I'm 60+ with the hearing of such. But boosting something kinda spoils the whole balance.

Bright is supposed to be identical to Dawn with FEv2 tuning which again is supposed to be identical to FEv2. I can’t remember at which point Plus V2 mode was introduced

Bright is Dawn v2.1, unreleased before.

But isen’t that supposed to essentially be the same as the original FEv2 ?

It's not the same, it has a bit more sparkling to it (at least).

still on FEv2 FW on my wm1a, usually go for the Plus mode - if i remember correctly it's more taut/lean than the classic mode (?)

The Walkman One firmware is now also available
for the NW-A40Series players (A45/A46/A47)!

Big thanks to Nayparm at www.npaudio.uk for his generous donation of a WM1A
(after having to sell mine, unfortunately), and to everyone who supported me so far!
🍺

If you're using some other custom firmware on the A40, you'll first have to
revert to stock, using the StockRevert package made for your installed firmware.

For more info about the settings file, firmware installation and reverting to
stock, changing the sound signature, and more, please check out the FAQ section.

Check out Walkman One (for A40), here.

Cheers!

The install and setup went quicker on my A45 since I already installed on my A55. I'm still working through the different combinations. I haven't decided what's best for me yet. Thanks for your continued work and refinement on this project.

I'm curious if you think that the A55 may sound slightly better than the A45 or not, given that the A55 is newer. :)

Is the max number of tracks affected by your fw ?
The A45 on stock fw maxes out around 37-38.000 tracks while the A55 and 1A/1Z can handle over 55.000 tracks.

It should be FW related, as the database partition has the same size.
