wow. i feel sorry for the unlucky person to buy em there; taking a glance over at Audiocubes:

SA1000 = 119USD
SA3000 = 179USD
SA5000 (for kicks) = 499USD

that's just unbelievable how expensive sony is trying to sell these. why not i get a SA1K + EX90SL over @ A/C and i'll have about $70 left to spare

and to think i was close to buying a Hi-MD blank at the sony store for $13CAD...

While we're on our Sony bashing spree let's not forget Shure sells the E4c for like $300?

Oh, the poor uninformed people

. Companies will sell things for what people are willing to buy them for. Sony is not the only company that does this.

Indeed. However, unlike Bose, Sony uses "middle men" to sell their products and give the resellers the freedom to set what price they want to. Thus, if you go to some online reteller, you can get sony stuff for much more reasonable prices. Bose, sets their prices and that's all you get - Triports for 150 bucks - the deal of a century.

True, Sony is more flexible with their prices...

It's not just Sony; Sennheiser, Grado, and everyone else does it.

The fact of the matter is that there are only a few headphones sold up here without a huge markup.

Well you went to the Sony store itself. Things are sometimes more expensive in an original / non-3rd party store.
