hi all... first post.
i'm setting up a first home theater with the following components:
fronts: polk r50
center: polk c125
rears: polk r15
sub: bic acoustec h-100
optical audio input: sony cdp-ce375
HDMI input 1: scientific atalanta 8300HD
HDMI input 2: lg dr1f9h 1080i upconverting DVD
display: pioneer 507cmx 50" plasma
i've narrowed my potential receivers down to two: the sony str-dg910 and str-dg1000... i guess i'm open to other suggestions, but based on price and feature set, these are the two that i think best fit my needs (i.e. single hdmi output to monitor, iPod connectivity with on-screen display over hdmi, decent sound quality, at least 5.1 audio). i've already considered and decided against the onkyo tx-sr605 and yamaha rx-v661/htr6060 because they present unresolvable problems for me. i have the following questions and was hoping someone might provide some insight:
1) good iPod connectivity (i.e. a powered dock, remote control, and an on-screen display) is important to us despite the obvious poor quality compared to cd/sacd... i initially got the str-dg1000 and planned on using a griffin tunecenter iPod dock, but i would prefer to use the sony TDM-IP1 iPod dock because it connects via the new sony Digital Media Port (DMP) - which the dg1000 lacks, despite being advertised as having Quote:
however, the dg910 does have the DMP, but isn't advertised as having Portable Audio Enhancer - does the dg910 also have some type of digital signal processing to optimize compressed audio formats and would this even make a difference (playing mp3 off an iPod)?
2) i've read that "under the hood" the dg1000 (i paid $517 inclusive of tax/shipping) is very similar to the higher end ES line. given that the dg910 (available for $361.14 inclusive of tax/shipping) nicely solves my iPod issue and is $150 cheaper, would the trade-off in internal component quality and power (100W/ch vs 120W/ch) from downgrading to the dg910 make a significant difference with my equipment?
thanks in advance and sorry for the long post length, but i wanted to give as much info as i could up front...
