For those who feel that the V1s lack adequate bass and that the mids and highs are a bit too bright, you might try this very simple mod.

I added a Radio Shack Tie-Clip windscreen, Part Number 33-4006 to the end of each bass tube. Cost was, I believe, $2.99 for a set of 4 covers.

It is a fairly tight fit over the end of the tube, but the openings can be stretched enough to allow the covers to slip over the end of the tube. The cover extends about 1/2" (to about to the bend in the bass tube).

Once in place, the PFR looks as if it came that way from Sony and the overall soundstage is much warmer, with greatly improved bass.

The addition of these foam covers also makes the fit in the ears much more comfortable for long-term listening than the bare tubes.

Imaging and soundstage remains superb.

I bought the PFR-V1 awhile back and loved them. The part I could not tolerate was the discomfort with the bass "channel."

I ended up selling them, buying the PFR-F1 (and loving them) and then getting curious about the PFR-V1 (again). I use the F1's for movies.

I bought them here on the forums and wore them with the bass channel not in the correct area, to avoid the discomfort.

I then saw this thread and the previous one by HiFlight, and consulted him via PM. I bought the wind screens tonight and WOW what a difference in comfort! Sounds quality is not affected in my opinion, but the comfort is amazing. Like there are no headphones on my head!

This a cheap addition that drastically improves these amazing headphones.

Have you done this.. and how hard is the process?

Not really hard, just need some basic soldering skills. Screw out those notts away and you'll see how it wires to drivers. Insert er-4 cable in place of stock ones and wire it with good lead and skill and done.
