Planning to buy a sony portable cd player. i have a collection of CDs, around 150. Dont have a portable one but used to own one 10 years ago. What I have now is an mp3 player (Iriver H140), sennheiser px100 and mx500 earbuds. Dont have headphone amp yet, but will probably get one by December or January. Either a Super Mini Moy or Mini Moy.

Cant buy online. Here's what I found in a local store:

Sony EJ100 - $78 USD
Sony EJ101CK - $98 USD
Sony EJ758CK - $92 USD
Sony EJ761 - $87 USD
Sony EJ785 - $114 USD
Sony NE300 - $101 USD
Sony NE511 - $101 USD
Sony NE518CK - $140
Sony NE711 - $116 USD
Sony D-E221CK - $116 USD
Sony FJ737 - $107 USD
Sony NF400 - $107 USD

My budget is 100 USD only. Please help me decide which one is a good buy. Thanks in advance.

Those prices are very high, even compared to what those very same players sell for at US retailers at full list price.

By the way, which country are you at?

Im here in Manila, Philippines.

I was excited when I saw a D-NE300 here because it got a great review here in head-fi and its cheap. But when I asked the salesperson, it cost 100 usd (5,700 pesos here).

Buying online is not an option cos i dont have a credit card, not to mention the shipping cost to Manila is high.

Thanks but I cant really buy online. One advantage buying at the store locally is I get to test the unit too. I just want a decent pcdp with a good headphone out/sound quality with or without a headphone amp. Budget is 100 usd. With line out is better but can live without it cos im on a tight budget. Thanks a lot for the replies.

Is EJ100 a good pcdp?

*bump*

Local store has Panasonic CT490 for $60 USD only. Is it good comparable to Sony EJ761 or NE300 (these are my current choices based on recommendation).

I haven't tried it yet, but I have seen some good reviews for it. I went to Toys R Us yesterday and saw it being sold for $50 also. If you don't want to buy online and have a Toys R Us near you, you can go take a look.

In this month's Stereophile, Sam Tellig lists the Sony D-EJ100 as his choice for the Class D Recommended Components. He pretty well gushed over it, particluarly at the Wal-Mart price of $50. Seeing as he's the kind of bargain basement values, I'd probably take him at his word.

I searched for it in google.com (sam tellig ej100) and found this:

http://stereophile.com/contents1204/

yes, the Sony EJ100 100 was mentioned:
