Hello all,
I'd like to begin with an apology of my "Junior Head-fier" question.

Now, onto the question:
I've recently obtained my first real pair of headphones: the MDR-V6, and love the sound and quality of it. However, it occurs to me that my sources are dated and need updating (2G iPod shuffle, 1G iPod nano), and narrowed down my searches to either the Sandisk Sansa Clip+, or the Sony S/E series players. The sandisk has the advantage of the low price, but the Sony's do have the advantage of the nicer screen and battery life.
I would like to ask - which one is a better value for me, given the sound quality? I've heard great things about both the clip's SQ and the Sony's but it's hard deciding between the two.

Oh, I mainly listen to R&B and Hip-hop, but occasionally a classical symphony or two.

And one last question: Would purchasing a portable amp (i.e PiiO e5) be beneficial to me?

Thanks!

The Sony S and E series are great looking and probably sound just fine. You can't go wrong with the Sony or Clip+, but one may be suited to your needs better. For example, the Sonys in this range max out at 16GB as far as I know. Are you okay with this? If not, then I'd get the Clip+ (for expandability).

I have yet to read something bad about the Clip+, but you will definitely need an amp for the MDR-V6, unless they're really sensitive, and from the 5 second search I did, it looks like they aren't really sensitive. You'll need one for the Sonys as well.

I haven't used the E5, but you might be able to get a good sound with them. I just read this thread:

and it sounds like you need a pretty good amp to unlock the potential of this headphone.

I have looked into the E1 when I was looking at the other Fiios (e3, e5), but I didn't think it would be of much use to me since the iPod nano is quite old, and I thought something newer would offer better SQ.

So now what I'm wondering is - would the old iPod nano first generation offer around the same SQ as a sansa clip+ would, with a fiio e1 and e5, respectively.

If it does, great since that means I could save a couple of bucks too!
