Sony NW-A40 Series NW-A45/A46/A47

Here's a opinion by me.. Something I found out to be better.. Worth the try
For all Sony Walkman including those ZX or A series here.. I tried it all.. All stock Walkman with Equalizer turned off sound like the 60hz boosted, 400hz lowered, 2.5khz boosted, 6.3khz boosted

Turning off Equalizer makes music sound thin and piercing. Vocal sound very bad.

The solution I accidentally found was...
Turn off all other built in enhancements like DSEE and DC Phase Linearizer except Equalizer

TURN ON EQUALIZER BUT SET ALL VALUE TO ZERO!

Try it.. You'll notice the bass is not so bloated as before , low mid 400hz become better.. Thicker body Vocal.. The 2.5khz frequency sharpness hiss disappeared too, or else the word T or S sound like a sharpened edge knives sisss... Pain and piercing.

In the end the music sounded more natural and flat and accurate!

Is just my opinion , but you can try and see if you liked it

The gears I used to test
Walkman A45 Vol 97 + Fiio L16 cable to Fiio A3 High Gain Vol <5 + Audio Technica M40x

I have been living with the A45, and have always abhored the sound signature until I found out about this! Thank you for this!

Now I quite appreciate the A45 with the 0EQ feature; added body, less thumpy, and no more of that piercing, thin upper range! What a treat!

I have a Sony NW - WM1A and these two folders I'm putting in the music folder show up just fine on the player. However, on my Sony NW - A45 those same folders don't show up on the player. Does anybody on here have any ideas as to why?

I'm not sure about the WM1A bit the A45 requires the files to be in a folder called "MUSIC" in the root directory of the SD card. If you already have that I don't know what the problem could be, sorry.

I’m doing more and more BT listening via LDAC which is leading me to the question, am I waisting the 1Z and would something like the much, much cheaper A45 do just as good a job playing red book flac files ?

If you're using bluetooth, I believe that means you're not using the DAC in the 1Z so I'd probably say the A45 better suits your needs in that regard

That was also my conclusion so I’ve bought a cheap A45 to go with my 1000XM3 and it will fit nicely in the travel case. I’ll continue using my 1Z with cabled balanced headphones

Received my A45 today and as I expected I’m unable to hear any difference between it and the 1Z when feeding the 1000XM3 over BT with LDAC. The gui and userexperience is identical. The A45 lacks BT receiver but has FM receiver. The A45 fits nicely in the case for the XM3.

How much % difference is there between the A45 and the 1Z on cabled headphones?

Will the Sony NW-A45 work with the new Sandisk 1 tb card?
Cards from basically any manufacturer work (even though Sony says they can't guarantee anything, I've found that SanDisk and Kingston cards work fine). It accepts any storage capacity up to 2 TB.

LDAC is available on Android 8.0 and above. You don't need A45 or DAP for Bluetooth streaming.

I have never had an Android device in my life, I’m totally in the iOS ecosystem, but thanks for the info
