Is it possible to download the CD album onto your computer so that it is not compressed into LP2 or LP4 form, so that you can in effect make a proper recording onto your MD player that is same quality as if you connected a CD player directly to the optical input? Because whenever I put a CD onto OpenMG Jukebox it only allows a maximum 132kbps.

Not with NetMD. NetMD SP mode (I think it's called 'stereo' mode in OpenMG) is really LP2 upsampled to 292k ATRAC. For compatibility with SP only units.

The speed advantage with SP in NetMD is not much.. 0.9x to 1.5/8x are what i've heard. Personally, i'd prefer doing my SP copies optically, in real time.

I rip CD's onto my computer in Wave format (i.e. 1.4 mbps) and use RealOne to transfer using NetMD. That way I don't get any transcoding issues such as what you want to avoid.

I think it's great since you just convert from Wave to ATRAC3, rather than Wave to low bit rate mp3 to ATRAC3.

RealOne is free too, give it a try I recommend it.

Oh yeah, it evens transfers the track info nicely.

Very convenient and you get good sounding discs.
