Does anyone have experience using headphone jacks on portables with a portable amp?
I went on a trip with my mom that was about an hour+ drive, so I brought along my Senn. 495, JMT (he's THE man) Penguin, and....my MD (R700).
I wanted to see how good (bad?) it would sound with the headphone jack being used as the line-out - I don't think ANY MDs have real line-outs anymore....might be worth it just for that to pick up an R37....meh...
Anyway.
I found the sound to be "sweeter" and "punchier" EXACTLY as redshifter described it. The sound was a also a bit grainy, and there were obvious artifacts with LP2 (my 888s don't make em half as obvious compared to my 495s). normal ATRAC *did* sound pretty good tho - almost like the CD, and VERY VERY good considering I was using a headphone jack as a line-out (volume at HP jack = MAX).
Thoughts, Experiences, Flames?
