I was at SonyStyle Metreon today, and was surprised to see that the $60 D-NE320 mp3 cd player (linky) had an "optical out" next to the headphone-out, whereas similar models like the D-NE319 and D-NF420 did not - there's just black plastic covering that area.

Forgive my newbie-ness regarding cables, but it looks like it'll require a cable with a flat jack sort of like the kind that connect to the bottom of cellphones. Here's a masterpiece showing headphone jack on left, and optical out on the right (bear in mind the optical out is nowhere near exactly the way it looked, I'm just giving a rough example):

Now does anyone happen to know where and what kind of cable I will need for this optical jack?

Could it be a usb out?. Look at the front of a micro dac and you will see a usb in for connecting to a computer.

That looks like the part where the remote goes into the cd player.

Hm, I don't think it was usb. It's actually labled "optical out" on the black plastic next to the jack. I was going to ask the Sony guy, but somehow I doubted he'd have the answer.

That's what it is. Also, on your link, there's no info on a optical line out. Maybe you found a Japanese version of the same player.

Sony remote makes the most sense. As far as saying optical out couldn't tell ya.

It's the standard remote jack on Sony's equipment (MD, PCDP). I also have the DNE320 and it is the remote jack.
