forward to seeing what you can do!
This is what I finally settled on:
Here is before and after from my measurement rig:
Before:
Sony z7m2 stock FR.jpg
After:
I reduced peaks and tried even out as much as I could with my DMT mod, which involves driver modification.
I don't have time to replicate this mod until my vaca time in summer, in case anyone interested.
:)

I thought you sold your z7m2s, why?
The z7m2 definitely one of the best I had.
But I have too many.
For purpose of further experiments I move onto other headphones as I have too many.

I actually only need a closed Headphone for portable use, so I have a Sony 1am2 for that.

For home I use Open cans.
I just finished an MA900 I will be selling.
:)

I bought the z7m2 as I thought it sounded very good from what I heard at canjam. Do you think its easy enough to swap the stock wires inside the headphones? Is it needed too? I feel better wires is always big welcome :)

Hi guys. What are the opinions of the MDR-Z1R versus this? Are the Z7M2 really that amazing? I'm wondering if the 1AM2 and WH-1000XM3 are enough closed back headphones.

Can't say about the 1AM2, but it's not a particularly fair comparison between the Z7M2 vs. the WH-1000XM3 as the intended use is completely different (travelling vs. at home). Not to mention, I only use the WH-1000XM3 for its noise cancelling: its sound is lackluster to say the least. The sound is completely different from these (thick, bassy sound for the XM3s vs. emphasis on upper mids) and, due to its semi-open design, the Z7M2's sense of stage is much more apparent.

Ok. And versus the MDR-Z1R, how is it?

really depends on what you like as sound signature, see I prefer 1z over 1a but in the case of z7m2 over mdr-z1r really personal Id say

MDR-Z1R is...........weird.

It has a better bass response compared to the Z7M2, but tone-wise, and I can't put my hand on it, it sounds off to me. Especially apparent when I sat down next to the Focal Clear and tried it next to it.

for me its big none sense wide bass and super bright treble. really dont understand that tuning ier-z1r much better

@Gamerlingual If you want to use headphones in the same situation that you want to use earplugs, wait for the xm4. Otherwise, get z7m2. I had the same debate, and I wanted to get both, but I'll probably be using noise canceling off for 90% of my time with headphones so I went with z7m2
The WH-1000XM3 I use mostly on the go for my commute in the train.
