Alot of you are probably thinking I dont know what Im talking about but let me fill you in. I bought the HD 590s because I decided to trust the opinions of ppl on this message board and other msg boards (not a rant but just what I went through). I read quite a few internet reviews on'em and ppls personal reviews, aswell as browsing countless posts with discussions on'em. So I figured hey I can trust ALL these ppl right?.. WRONG
biggrin.gif

.

The only reason I bought the 590s was because my previouse and what I consider much better audio wize Sony MDR-V700s caused me ridiculous amount of pain in my ears and at the top of my head. I actualy took Tylenol and Aspirin quite a few times just to see if I could enjoy music for periods of time over 20-40min. Although I found the sound of the Sonys great I give'em the masocistic award of the decade for the most possible amount of pain derived from a headphone.

Ive used the Sonys for over 2 years and got fully acquainted with their capabilities with music, games and movies. When I finally got the HD590s I was very excited I have to admit, I couldnt wait to fully try them out on everything that caused me so much pain before not to mention I expected not just better sound but AWSOME sound from what Ive read on places like here, and that oohhh so soft fabric that ppl consider one of the most comfortable headphones. With all that going you can imagine how excited I was.

Well I can say now safely after atleast a year of using the 590s their sound in all categories I mentioned isnt nearly as immersive as the 700s. I know some of you may think, well your probably just hearing the bass on the 700s or its just because their the 'closed' in headphones but no thats not the case.

Ive tested bass and treble on both of the headphones with music, games and movies and the sound isnt comparable. Ive downloaded just to be sure many classical songs, rock, trance ect testing them over and over and I still come to the same conclusions. One thing that I was really thinking about was the hyped 590s capability of picking up sounds better than other headphones but I can again safely say that isnt the case. I cant tell you how many times Ive played a song over and over to see if I could hear things more clear or more in-tune with the rest of the sounds and rhythm going on, everytime I put back on the 700s things where definitely much more in-tune. I found the 700s could pick up sounds I couldnt hear aswell with the 590s. Ive also changed back and forth countless times between headphones and 2 speaker mode in my audigy settings to see if the 590s could show something the 700s couldnt do but that never happened.

So now all Im looking forward to is selling my HD 590s. Sticking with my Sonys and when Im better off get a pair of headphones that have the sound of the 700s and the comfort of the 590s.

(Another short story about trusting reviews..
I bought a pair of BOSS headphones after I trusted a review on'em that their so great (ign.com). They ended up giving poor sound and they where so poorly constructed they actualy broke while on my head, and believe it or not I was dumb enough to buy another after that and the exact same thing happened
redface.gif
, I figured the first one was just a defect but no, Im glad I went to a store and heard that they decided to not sell BOSS headphones because too many ppl came back to replace them, too bad I didnt take what he said seriously because I bought'em after I heard that)

I don't really like either headphone. I think it is funny that you need to take drugs to try to prolong listening sessions with the V700's...that really puts a lot of things in perspective.

I think HD590's are overhyped personally...and if they didn't have respectable brothers or lineage, I don't think they would have been given a splash of notice in the pool of headphones.

I'm with ya, Tim D. I had both of those headphones - and neither one of those is anywhere near what I'd consider "great". The HD590's sounded just plain wrong - murky bass that doesn't go all that deep; shrill highs with transients that last two weeks; nasal, sucked-out midrange. Really incoherent-sounding, to say the least. The MDR-V700DJ's are much too dark-sounding to be of much use, for my listening tastes - the mid-bass response

almost completely overpowers what little treble response that those DJ cans deliver! What a big, wet, steaming pile of sh

I think it's funny that the HD-590's actually have a higher overall rating than the HD-580's on audioreview.com. I know there are people out there that really like the HD-590's but on this forum they seem to be few and far between--while I've noticed that the 580/600 get recommended a lot more.

Eagle Driver, have you listened to HD-595's? If so, how do they compare to the HD-590's? The 595 seems to have a much more enthusiastic following than the HD-590...and it would probably be a more plentiful following if the darn things were readily available!

Yes, I did listen to the HD595's. They strike me as a less expensive and somewhat brighter version of the flagship HD650's. Still, the HD595's are a BIG improvement over their HD590 predecessors.

Head-fiers aren't always gonna be right. If you don't want advice, fine.

People here recommend phones based on their experiences or what they think would suit you, not tell you which one exactly is gonna be perfect for you. Many people read threads, but for some reason don't ask the Q's themselves. Noone here held a gun to your head and forced you to purchase those phones. It was your choice to buy them.

Most headphone reviews mean jack s**t unless they're from a reputable music source/person, or from here. Ign is a gaming site, they don't know anything about music. I feel sorry for you if you believed them (don't mean that as an insult, before I came here I though sony dj styles were the best of the crop)
But if you like your 700s, power to ya. It's your life. Just don't blame us.

You lurked at this forum for a year before posting a rant about the hd 590?

I own the v700 and they were my main cans for 2 years, i've heard the 570s - the 590s little brother. To my ears the 570s kicked Sonys arse. 700s might have louder bass, but the 570 has clarity that the 700s can't touch, and the bass was more than acceptable.

The point is to find headphones YOU like, if you like the 700s then good for you, listen to them, doesn't make any difference what anyone else likes. Hope yours don't break like mine did, be a bit careful.

Don't tell me--the infamous cracks near the swivel pieces?

FWIW, I bought a set of V900's because I thought I wanted a headphone with plenty of bass. Big mistake! The V900's definitely had bass and plenty of it, but the downside to that is that they are very VERY colored and not nearly as clear/detailed as my Grados. I couldn't return them for a refund fast enough! They were efficient headphones though.

That's the one, the swivel joint. To replace it with an original part is about US$45. Some guys in the UK have figured out a good way to fix them (not very expensive), I have the email somewhere if anyone wants it.

They are very efficient - PC headphone sockets can drive them to ear bleeding volumes, and unfortunately I let them. Tinnitus ain't fun.

I don't think the V700's are the best phones on this planet by a long way, but I'll listen to them quite frequently (especially now, that the HD25-1 is ill again... I don't think it was properly repaired) with a bass cut. On a portable with EQ that's easy enough to do, and on the iPod, just engage 'Bass Reducer'. In that mode there's not that much culture shock when moving between it and a pair of Etys, surprisingly enough.

Skitlets I wouldnt say that, I lurked alot before I bought the headphones, I dont do much lurking on a product that I already own. I came back to this forum after a long time yes, and decided to INFORM and not RANT as you put it, I already made that clear in the first paragraph thankyou very much.

Kirosia your one mean ho

IGN wasnt always a gaming site, I havent visited'em in a long time though and it seems its true what you say. IGN was formed by different sites to form 1 big site to attact more users, they had a ton of dedicated things not relating to games, but I guess as the droves kept coming to game related stuff only the site changed over time.

I'm not exactly dissing the 700s; I've honestly heard them and disliked them. In fact, they sounded worse to my ears than many headphones that sell for one-third their price.
