Hi guys, This is my first post here but I have been reading many many threads through the search function on various headphones I was interested in. I also auditioned many headphones at audio stores, mainly the HD570 which didn't have enough bass for me but were very comfortable! I also listened to the HD495's, a pair of AKG's, Koss U80 and the Sony MDR-500 and 600. I didn't really like either of them and I didn't bother to listen to the more expensive one's as they were out of my budget, so I started reading up on the Sony V6's here.

In the end I decided that the Sony V6's were the best for me but over the last few days I realized that I couldn't get these headphones locally at a reasonable price! (I am in Montreal, Canada). I couldn't even find the 7506's in most audio stores around here, so auditioning them was not an option
frown.gif
The stores that did have them in stock were charging $185 + tax CND which was more than I wanted to pay and they wouldn't let me audition them...

However, This morning I remembered I had a close friend that lived in the USA on the west coast, so I email'd him and asked him if he wouldn't mind picking up a set of V6's, he said he didn't mind and actually found them at fry's for $80 USD! So he bought them and he will be shipping them to me tommorow and I will send him $90 USD including shipping for USPS ground with insurance.

The problem is that I have not heard these headphones yet and as I read more reviews on this site and on others I realized that some people were saying that they are bright and it could be fatiguing. I'm not sure how bad this is because most of the reviews have said that these are very good headphones with exceptional bass and very clear but then I read some that say they are way too bright and had to return them... So I don't know who to believe now! (some people on audioreview.com were actually recommending the MDR-V600's over the V6's!!!) Is this a problem or are some people more sensitive to it than others?

When I decided to get these headphones it was because I listen to alot of techno/house/trance/dance and many people recommended these headphones for that type of music with there deep/tight bass, I just don't want the high frequencies to be fatiguing for my ears. I guess I will just have to wait until they arrive here since my friend bought them already. (He actually bought himself a pair after he listened to the demo V6's that fry's had up, he said they were great.)

Any V6 owners out there that have any opinion on this? Did I make the right decision?

i think that if this is your first purchase into quality headphones you will be both impressed and satisfied (for the time being

)....

A lot of ppl don't like the comfort of the v6, and jump for the beyer pads. So far i've been too lazy to get the beyer pads, but i find the stock pads comfortable so far.

I believe you made a good decision and I wouldn't worry about it at all. I love my V6s, and I'm sure you'll be as impressed with them as I was when I first heard mine.

Although with my freakishly large head I had some comfort problems with them, they squished my ears pretty hard, until I got smart and bent the headband a little bit and since then I've had no comfort problems.

As for them being bright, I guess they can be, I really haven't noticed it. Maybe I'm used to it or something. But I do get fatiqued wearing them, but I think it's just wearing headphones in general that's the problem for me, nothing specific to the V6.

Thanks for replying!

jlo mein, yes this would be my first set of quality headphones. I am currently using a pair of Labtec headphones

clintf, i read the specs on the V6's and they say that they are Circum-aural design? That meants that the pads lay around your ears on the head right? not on the ears itself?

As for them being bright, I think that if i find them to be too bright I could always lower the treble on my reciever to nuetralize the effect? what do you think?

Also, has anyone listened to mp3s with these headphones? how do they sound? I will mostly use them with mp3s encoded to 128/160/192...

They are bright, but should be ok for the most part. As for mp3 usage, the V6's are very analytical and if those mp3's are poorly encoded, your gonna hear every artifact. The V6's sound great with well recorded music and bring out the worst in a poorly recorded album.

I found the stock pads to sit on my ears, so i switched to the beyer pads and now they sit over my ears...much more comfortable for extended listening.

lowteg,

Unless you have really small reas these headphones will site right on your ears. They don't press really hard, even with my big head, but do sit on my ears.

Sound - lot of bass, decent high-end that's a little too bright/harsh but livable, well worth it for the price point. And as you said you can always lower the treble to reduce this. When compared to other headphones at the same price they do pretty well indeed. And better in some areas like bass.

Enjoy the headphones.

If I change the pads on the V6 to the beyer velour pads will I get some more room so that the pads don't sit on my ears? Or are they the same size?

Also, I'd be connecting these headphones to a decent pioneer reciever (vsx-d498), which has a built-in headphone jack, are those jacks on the reciever amplified?

The beyer pads should sit around your ear, their rather large to the point where the phones wont fully fold up anymore. The receiver should be more than able to drive them.

Anything from portables/pc/cdplayers and headphone amps should drive the V6/7506s nicely. The are rated at 63ohms. I've tried these on almost all sources except a headphone amp coz I dun have one yet. These are my very 1st cans and i consider them to be one of the best, if not the best I've bought at that price. Oh yah, i listen to alotta dance/electronic as well.

my V6s were delivered today!
biggrin.gif

I'm listening to them right now, and although they aren't "burned in" yet, they sound beautiful compared to all of my old headphones(mostly crappy stock things that came with PCDPs, and an old pair of Audio Technicas).

EDIT: I also listen to a lot of MP3s. I"m playing some right now, and I'm just like, "WOW."

The Sony V6's are circumaural for me - I guess I have small ears
biggrin.gif
.

In comparison, I thought the Grado SR60's were *much* less comfortable (as in, I couldn't wear them for more than 30 min.) and the Sennheiser HD495's were significantly brighter. For techno and electronica the V6's are very good. Classical music is a different story (not so good in my opinion).

A newish member/veteran lurker here. (Hi everyone...thanks for the weeks of distraction...my work ethic has suffered beautifully.
wink.gif
) I just ordered a pair of used V6's, and while I realize Beyer earpads are the replacements of choice, are Sony pleather replacements still available? Anyone know where or how I could get my hands on them? And if so, how much would they cost me?

Thanks in advance...

Can anyone post pics of V6's? I'm making a little directory with
pics of different phones and I don't really like the pics I've found
on website (all too small and they do not show a lot of the
interesting stuff
wink.gif
).. If anyone feels like spending a little time with
his cam and taking pics of pads, band, earcups, structure, etc..
That would be really nice of you

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Anyways, I think I'm going to stop reading all those threads in the search section about the V6's now! I've read so many recently that I'm starting to become a bit worried about them being overly bright... But reading those countless threads has shown me that some people don't find the V6's brightness to be a problem and some feel that it is, so I don't know who to really believe!

Also, The fact that they are really accurate concerns me because I listen to mostly mp3s thru my pc and I'm not sure if they are of the highest quality(probably not!).

oh well, I'll just have to wait till they arrive next week to find out for sure! Hopefully I will like them and never regret getting them

JiPi, I am getting my V6's next week and if you still need pics by then I will take some for you.
