I just acquired a set and can't find any info them, the only thread I did find was one from a while ago. Anyone know anything about these??

Hmm ... didn't know about these.  The box looks pretty cool, but I can't see any differences with the headphone.  Still, it's a definite classic and has been widely used in studios and elsewhere since the 80's.
 
I'm afraid being a "collectors edition" probably doesn't stop the pads from flaking.  This will happen inside of a year, sometimes.  Get yourself some Beyer DT250 velour pads and change them out.  I've heard stories where broadcast and recording studios purchase V6's by the case, along with replacement velour pads by the case, too.  Then they replace the pads as soon as they take them out of the box.
 
Anyway, it's the number one mod for these headphones.
