That price makes it look like an entry level headphone. Probably not very good. The claim of reproducing full sized speaker's sound is also just a little grandeur I think?
I remember a while back Sony was trying to make a collection of clip ons that were EQed a certain way according to what type of music you listened to, and you bought whichever headphone suited your music style. I wonder if those ever came out...or if this is one of them?
I have a set of MDR-Q55SL solid headphones (http://www.jp.sonystyle.com/Qnavi/De...R-Q55SL_S.html). They look nearly identical and have the same specs so I don't know which came first or if they have any differences besides appearance. The Q53 might be newer. The Q55 phones leak a lot of sound. You'd really disturb people on public transit with these on. As far as clip-on headphones go, the sound quality is pretty good. However, the highs and mids are really recessed compared to something good like the MDR-7506. Bass is also somewhat missing and muddy. The braided cable is very sturdy and practical. The clip-on mechanism keeps the phones in place verl well, and is reasonably comfortable even with glasses. Anyway, you could do much worse for USD$14.
