Hunker down, save your cash and buy a CD3000. You'll be glad you did...

Duncan said one place in the UK still has some but their astronomical shipping killed the deal for me. $60 shippng on a $100 phone is just too much. In all fairness it's UPS that charges that much not them. Anyways, I believe the place was askdirect.co.uk. You could email them and see if they still had any.

Eh, the dearth of CD1700s on the marketplace is no tragedy. They have their purpose, but I don't think they sound significantly better than sportapros.

R10

CD-1700
.. (I think most people agree with this)

What should be the fourth best one?

I personally would put the V6/7506 above the CD1700. Some would put the F1 above the CD1700, as well.

The CD1700 ain't all that.

Highs are muffled, mids are warm and lush but lacking subtlety, and the bass is flabby.

Have not heard with a really good amp, but I didn't like what they promised, and wouldn't expect them to improve much. I imagine you could find a used pair for $150-$175, but I personally would buy an HD580 for less than that. I wouldn't pay over $100 for a CD1700. It's a curiosity more than anything, and probably not worth the effort of tracking down these days.

I agree with this if you run them out of a PCDP.
With a good amp the bass problem is fixed.
The midrange is this can's strength.
The highs are easily fixed by removing the little foam pads that cover the driver, then the phones take on a whole new character.
I have a pair and they are my favorite cans for late night DVD viewing because of their large soundstage and comfy fit.
If you can find a pair for $150 I would get them just to try them out. They can easily be re-sold if you don't like them.
