I've just done a search on this and cant find much info.....

Why do I ask? Well I have just persuaded a friend to upgrade from his Sony MDR-EX70's to some CD1700's (he liked my CD3000's) and I mentioned the foam mods to him to give them a sound that is supposedly more towards the CD3000 side of things.

What does it entail?

It's a rather easy mod actually, just take off the earpads to reveal 2 small foampads. Gently pull them off (they're glued on 5-6 dots) and put the earpads back on. All done and the treble has suddenly come alive.

Cheers mate, although as stock he is saying they are very bright, so that mod may go on the back burner for a bit...

The CD1700's bright? I think they may be called alot of things but bright isn't really in their vocabulary. I wonder if they need breakin or if there is something else going on in the chain.

They are brand new.

He is using a Terratec EWX 24/96 soundcard (not bright), and out of a Pioneer A400 integrated amp (bright, but I am sure the resistors in the amp must take their toll somewhere).

He got em from www.askdirect.co.uk for £80 delivered (about $150).

Just trying to talk him into buying an amp for them now
