Sony MDR-7506, 7509 or V6 ?

Looking at some of the comments here, the 7506 & V6 both get good reviews & it seems a toss up which one to get & may depend on your use. But it also seems the 7509 is the best of both worlds.

However when I look at the Sony.com website neither the V6 nor 7509 are listed. Are these replaced by a newer model which I should look at?

I have a set of MDR-CD360 headphones which suit me just fine for watching some TV such as the news or CSI. I like the full size ear pads because they tend to block out other people talking in the house. So I only use them once in a while. But the vinyl covering on the ear pads is coming off & I cannot find replacement pads that fit.

I’d like to replace the 360 with something with full size ear cups. I’m not stuck on Sony but the openings in some of their ear cups seem larger than other brands & actually covers the ear. And it appears the 7506, 7509 & V6 look the same, however I’ve yet to see these in person.

Even though the 7509 & V6 are available on Amazon, should I be looking at newer replacement models?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

JMHO, but the 7509 use an entirely different headband hinging system - similar to the MDR-V600, which was a piece of cr*p, excuse the language.  Those big plastic "tootsie-roll" hinges will cause huge microphonics and are bulky, inconvenient, impossible to lubricate, and altogether useless.

The V6 is tried and true - used by hundreds of broadcast and recording studios since the mid-80's.  The 7506 is a worthy replacement, even if more expensive simply to get a gold plug.  If Sony decides that's what they want to do and discontinue the V6 for good, so be it - but the 7506 is the same thing.

All three models are different as you can see on the chart. I haven't heard 7509, but the chart looks bad. The FR for 7506 and V6 are accurate to my ears. 7506 is brighter than V6 because of 7506's lack of bass. Are you using them for anything besides TV?

I think it's easy to see that the Sony MDR-7509's response is completely different than the V6 or 7506 (which are extremely similar, btw).  Most likely, any variation in the V6 and 7506 is small enough that it can be attributed to statistical scatter or positional errors with the instruments.

The V6 is $5 more than the 7506, which is not a deal breaker. I never really paid attention to the price of the 7509 but it is over $1,000 so forget about that one.

I'm just going to be using them for TV, no music. At least that's my intention. I guess if I really like them I could use them for music. I don't need anything fancy for TV listening. And my ears aren't the best after years of listening to loud music when I was younger. IOW I'll never hear 20KHz.

Again, I'm not hung up on Sony, it's just what I have. I do see some positive comments about different Audio Technica models. Amazon has the ATH-M30, M35 & M50. I just looked & the M30 supposedly retails for $119 & they are selling it for $40.85. Obviously a health discount.

Are the Sony & Audio Technica models mentioned comparable headphones?
