I think you're better off with this

I made a few more adjustments to my design and I'm very happy with it. Compact and neat. If anyone is interested and has access to a 3D printer, let me know and I'll send you the .stl files for the design.

Im currently running my Z1Rs single ended with a Hidizs S9 dongle, I want to use the 2.5mm balanced connection but would need an appropriate cable. Any recommendations? Also, is it possible to get a 2.5mm adaptor so I can use the supplied balanced cable?

You can get adaptors or something like the Dunu Blanche, Fiio or other cables with replaceable plugs

Stock balanced cable and a DDHIFI DJ44B adapter.

I have read here someone giving positive feedback on a FiiO cable - (LC-2.5D), they have 2.5/3.5/4.4mm options and different choices of materials like SPC and silver I think.
Otherwise FiiO also offer various adapters and their products are reasonably priced.

So tonight I was trying to put my balanced cable back in after using the Z1R with my laptop. For the life of me, I couldn’t get it to fit. Turns out, the sleeve on the 3.5 MMCX cable came detached and is stuck in one of the earpieces. That cable mounts just fine because it fits so I’m using that. But how do I get the little sleeve out of the connector so I can use my balanced cable?

The top cable is the one sans-sleeve. Any ideas?

Same thing happened to mine.

I used a tiny screw driver to lever the sleeve out of the iem.

But take care. I was lucky I think and it took alot of force.

You could also return it to Sony for repair.

Oh, and don't use the Sony cables.

Thanks for the balanced cable suggestions, unfortunately, like most things in the uk at the moment, the options are limited due to stock shortages (Brexit/ Covid) so I decided to keep the stock balanced cable and I’ve managed to find a balanced adaptor that’s available…….

Geekria Apollo 4N OCC and Single-Crystal Silver Upgrade Cable / 4.4MM Balanced Female to 2.5MM Balanced Male Adapter Cord / 4 Cores Conversion Audio Cable (5.1 Inches)

It’s a gamble but the reviews on Amazon are generally positive. I might get the fiio cable once stock is available again.

That’s exactly my problem too. I had a brief moment of panic when I saw your serial number because mine is nearly the same (010112). It’s also the left side. Was it the 3.5 or 4.4 cable that did it to you? Did you use the screwdriver on the inside of the stuck piece or outside?

Mine was the 3.5 left side just like yours!

Assuming you bought the Z1R from an authorised dealer I would just get in contact with them and see what they suggest... I’d be hesitant to stick anything in the MMCX connection as the components look quite delicate.

Good idea. I can still use them albeit with the unbalanced connection. I think I’ll survive while I get it sorted out. This is good reason to get a backup pair of IEMs. 🤔

At this point, I would write directly to Sony and since it has already happened to two cables the same thing I would ask to solve the problem and to better check the factory that produces these cables for them in China. The one thing that does not cure directly causes these serious problems, they should think about this. And ruining so good and expensive iem for a problem like this is not something we ever want to see. Luckily I've never used those cables ... too beautyful to be also good.
I look forward to the lc-re fiio and thanks to the interchangeable jack once placed I will consider as soldered.
But Sony have to know.
