SONY IER-Z1R

I just had a pair show up today from Crutchfield, and this exact thing happened to me, also on the left IEM. I called them immediately and they're cross-shipping me a replacement pair, but I'm not real sure I want to use the OEM cable on the new pair and risk that happening again. I dug out the broken part and threw them onto another cable while I wait, and they sound so good :D

Oh boy :triportsad:

how did you dig out the broken part?

FD5 case form Fiio fits my Z1Rs with cable on and the BTR5. Don't think you could pack more sq any lighter! The Sony OEM case is a pain to use IMO and it won't fit the BT receiver.

I was able to get a letter opener into the oem and break pieces of the thing off until it fell out on its own. I'd suggest something smaller if you were planning on keeping the iem since I scratched up the inside a little bit, but it still saved the iem at least.

Probably a bad batch, Crutchfield is the reliable and also the site Sony sends you to to buy a set.

Yeah, seems to me like a bad batch.

I've had mine for over a year now too and they're still in tip-top shape even when I constantly cable-roll when I get the chance to try a new cable.

Agree about the bad batch .... mine went back to sony uk and came back without sounding a "counterfeit" klaxon ..

Serial number 10120 - looks like it may have been made in October 2020 from the details on the box....

I've got a fiio lc-3.5d on its way to me now ..

Very exciting!

I would like to know if any of you use a cable for the IER Z1R of those that allow swapping the plug, like the Dunu one or the Fiio LC-RE. Thank you in advance!

using the Dunu Blanche, purely for matching in looks and plug swapping. Just note the Dunu mmcx plug is smooth, so it’s hard to pull out from the iem. you can try Dita Oslo too. i didn’t analyse or compared to the original.

Man, I've always wanted to get the Blanche. It just looks so aesthetically beautiful. And just imagine it with the IER plugs...

In
I used a very small flathead screwdriver on mine ..... was very tough and i bent the screwdriver in the process ... everything is peachy now though (except the cable of course)

It hurts just to look at that.

I once tried connecting a "normal" mmcx pin to the z1r, lesson learned. Was so afriad of breaking the pin/connector when I'm puling it out. If you want to plug the normal mmcx connector to your z1r, make sure that u wont be needing to pull it out anytime soon.
