SONY IER-Z1R

Slowly conquering the beast. I find amping z1r helps it greatly, specially tube amps. Loving the new Dita audio Oslo cable. Gives this extended lush sound to z1r.

Slowly learning the likes and dislikes of z1r.

LPG isn’t a good match to z1r.

what new batch, this is the first batch.

Think he means the demo batches, where we were complaining about the mids.

I've reverted back to stock cable, as as much as the Oslo cable fixed the treble for me, the sound became way too laid back and organic.

Currently, for me, nothing particularly stand out for me with Z1R. It isn't special in any way, or bad in anyway. I guess for the money I paid I wanted something with a character, but as is IER-Z1R lacks it.

I still believe Z1R needs good amplification. I remember Z1R sounding alot more alive out of LPGT.

Compared to FW10K, the treble is actually a lot less offensive, but the tonality of FW10K is so much more engaging that the treble sharpenss of FW10K doesnt bother me.

So far sounds best with TA ZH1ES desktop. Sounds second best so far with WM 1A and third best with the most pricy WM 1Z. Somehow it adds soundstage and warmth to the 1A. The IER-Z1R almost needs desktop power to be it’s best. Though it was fine from an iPod Touch. It sounded better than average but it’s true character does not come out till you get it a real source and amp. Though I haven’t tried high power on the 1Z yet. It’s has the most amazing soundstage I’ve ever heard. Now I can see why Sony released it with the DMP Z1, it may just need it to be it’s best.

Funny it seems to be oozing character to me, and it’s even different than any Sony headphone I’ve ever laid hands on?

What is "too organic"? How is that even possible?

I find it sounding beautiful with the Hugo 2 and amazingly well with the Hiby R6 Pro (4.4mm output). Engaging vocals, fantastic separation, soundstage, sense of living presence... Just love it.:)

I tried the IER-Z1R today at the flagship store of Sony in Hong Kong using my 1Z as source. Sound stage, separation and speed are great. Did not feel very impressed by the sound signature though and on some old recordings I found it has a tendency to highlight way too much for my taste the background noise to a point where I could not enjoy the music. The same noise is also there with other IEMs like Solaris but simply not pushed so much forward. I will try to give it more listening time shortly.
