Swapping out cables between balanced and unbalanced will probably wear out the connection between the cable and earphone.

As gerelmx1986 has shown in the picture, one of those would serve me good. TY g1986.
It is the FiiO LL-4.4M

It's not called "wear out", it's called "burn in".

So I have joined the Sony fun...I do have a question. Those of you that switched from the stock tips, were you looking to alter the signature or was because of seal, fit or comfort?

1. IER-Z1R sounds "right" only on stock tips. I tried everything. YMMV.
2. IER-Z1R needs to be inserted deeply, past the first ear canal bend, to sound right. It's especially hard because the stock tips are very soft and wiggly. It took me some time to learn how to insert them properly. But it was definitely worth it.
3. IER-Z1R does NOT isolate very good because it's not really a closed IEM. It's semi closed, or vented. Just try to breathe through the tip/nozzle, you'll notice the air comes through easily. That's also why there's no driver flex and no occlusion effect when pushing them deep.

When one says "only" they are wrong.

When one says YMMV you go check what it means.
True , everything you posted was your experience. My experience is the stock tips are meh. With non stock tips I had no need to shove this iem deeply. I use this iem on the go in a 8 million populated cramped city with no isolation issues. Just my 15 yrs of Ymmv.

My experience is that there's not a hug difference between stock tips and others and that insertion depth also doesn't make a huge difference in how they sound.

Tips for me in this case are 100% for fit and comfort. I also wear the z1r backwards as it's the only way to get them comfortable. It's a shallow fit, but unless there's some magic with a super deep fit that I cannot achieve regardless, I just haven't noticed any difference in sound, and they still sound excellent to me with a shallow fit.

You should try the Audeze i4s. The tips sit over your ears and not inside, generally. The sound is marvelous with the only issue is that sound leaks quite a bit and so you can't use them at a Starbucks or a quiet library. That's why I also have the IERs handy dandy.

In that case an equally correct statement would be:

The Z1R will “never” work with the stock tips. YMMV

As a non apple user, the audeze line never appealed to me since I think you need the cipher cable to get the most out of them.

I am also definitely not in the market for a other 2k+ iem right now either. And being open like that is probably not great for my normal listening uses.

But I'll keep an eye out if I get the chance to demo them.
