Compared to what? The EP-NI1000?
compared to everything I have: both stock tips, AET06/07/08. JVC Spiral Dot/SD++, Spinfit CP100/100+/360/240/145, Moondrop Spring, Softears Clear, AZLA SednaEarfit XELASTEC, both Tanchjim T-APB eartips, Final E (both black and clear red version), Symbio N and especially EP-NI1000.

*CP360 and CP240 not in the picture because I purchased them after this picture was taken and I am not arranging them all again to take another picture.

I found this amazing interview about technical details of the IER-M9

https://e-earphone.blog/?p=1289655

There were quite some new things i didn't knew before.

The holes of the housing for the BA all have slightly different sizes and shapes to tune the sound of every BA (in addition to the already different tunings of the BAs and the network and so on).

Small details like this, insane.

check out radius deep mount. the name itself said it, deep mount. it sits inside your ears so deep it isolates way better than spinfit.
Is there any difference between the clear & the solid black radius deep mounts other than colour.
The azla sedna earfit are the same at the top but instead of tapering in midway to the bottom they stay straight. I will give the radius a try but I don't have any problems with the azla either. Cheers.

What surprised me most is that the IER-M9 uses real carbon.

I would have never guessed that. I was sure it just looks like Carbon but is plastic.

But it's actual carbon. The IER-M9 is completely made of metal and carbon, that's insane.

Thanks for sharing! I love reading interviews like this about IEMs, especially from big players like Sony.

Those housing looked sexy
Yes. Also insane that every of those holes have different sizes even though they look identical in size.

Just imagine how much trial/error it took until they found the right size for every of these.

Seeing how complex this topic is actually explains why the IER-M9 is much more expensive. Its not just one additional driver, this additional driver caused a lot of trouble in the development, not just the housing, the gateway, the additional capacitor and so on.

Like the IER-Z1R, MDR-Z1R and the Walkmans, the IER-M9 is an piece of art made by people with the dedication to produce something as close to perfection as possible.
