Sony EX71's for 4G iPod-- would they really be that bad?

I'm trying to get a smaller earphone for my iPod (the case I have is very small and even the Senn MX300's are a tight fit), and I wondered if the EX71's would really sound that terrible on the 4G iPod.

Anyone out there care to share their experiences with the EX71/iPod combo?

They won't sound that bad until you hear one of the better phones. Lots of iPod users are happy with the EX71s. In fact, there are places where you can get them in white to match your iPod.

They might not be audiophile quality, but they sound fine and have pretty decent isolation. For the price, they are a nice throw around pair of canalphones.

Oh man...I had a pair of ex71's...took me about 5 minutes to return them. They were REALLY bad....everything sounded compressed and muffled. I would spend alittle more and get a pair of ety's or shure's.

What world do you live in where it's just "a little more' for Etys or Shures over the EX71's? Last time I checked, even the E2's are pretty much double the price of the EX71's.

Either way, I think I'll tough it out with my MX300's rather than drop $30-40 on the EX71's..

i use the ksc-35s, the ipod and cmoy is in a little cannondale bikeseat bag - when it's time to take em off i just clip them right to the outside of the bag- they are cheapos so they dont need to be stuffed into a bag really.

The EX71 aren't bad. I prefer the MX500s in that kind of price category but the Sonys would probably be more comfortable if you don't like the MX300. I haven't heard the 300s so I can't compare them to the EX71, but I think the 71 has quite good clarity for the price, but it's a less enjoyable, natural sound than the MX400/500.

I had E3s, but they had less detail in the mids and highs than I expected for their price, so I returned them. I have the EX71s now, and i'm much happier with them. They're not audiophile quality, but they're not bad. Their bass is too strong, and I can't listen to them for too long, but they're great gym/casual use canal phones with reasonable isolation.

If I were listening a lot with these (I don't) i'd probably upgrade to Ety 6is (which aren't quite out yet) or perhaps ER4s.
