As I mentioned in another thread, I picked up some Sony EX51's at Best Buy the other day. I have tried every pad and every position/depth in an attempt to make them sound decent. Yes yes, I know they have boomy bass and cutting highs and are horrible phones and I should have gotten the E2cs. Please hear me out.

The problem I am having here is that I can't seem to get them to have the "overpowering bass" they are billed as having them. They have a teeny little bit of bass drum punch, but that is it. They are NOTHING compared to my lowly KSC-55s, which within my (very) limited experience have a quite nice low end.
Is it possible that I have gotten a lemon? I know these arent the highest quality headphones out there but I at least expected them to have the "qualities" everyone rags on them for.

(In case you were wondering why I got them when I had KSC-55s already was that I would like a bit of isolation for walking in the halls at school etc etc and I had hoped that they would be at least close to the KSC-55s in quality.)

I got the Sony 70 & 71, as well as the Shure e2
I've never heart the 51, but it's supposed to be the same as the 71. The 71 does not have overpowering bas, the shure has more bass (but IMO, a balanced sound, nothing overpowers).
The 70, they sure have a distorted bass, and for some rreason that treat is now linked to the 71 (&51?) as well, IMO incorrect.

Ever seince I posted that, I have been readin up on alternate phones and listening to the 51s. Lemons or not, I don't find them very comfortable so I think I will return them and pick up some used V6's for a few more bucks.
