Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

They're at around 87% yearly, item is listed as used very good and the broken english description makes it seem like it wont come with any packaging. I'm going to risk it anyway lol, the Japanese are kinda known for keeping their stuff mint and the price is too good to pass up compared to the rest of the listings I've seen.
I've heard different stories re: how japanese treats their audio gears.lol

Any one living Hong Kong, Sony centre in MK has the ex1000, if you don't mind paying original price.

Hm,

Is the MDR7550 / EX800ST worth picking up if one already has the EX1000?
Whiles the ex800 is cheap now, and you have extra cash, shouldn't be a problem, when they are discontinue d, it will go up in price, I have the full series, you can see it in my sig.

Well I've had some real rotten luck trying to get a pair of EX1000s! Not one but two Japanese sellers that I tried didn't actually have stock, so I'm back on the hunt :triportsad:

But hey at least the 2.5mm balanced cable is here lol... It comes in its own case which is neat, no chin slider though nor any real housing/cover for where the L/R split weave happens which is interesting. On the plug the wire side is glued in so seems solid enough. No memory wire for around the ears but it seems the wires are just shaped that way.

Here's some pics for those interested:

That's the same cable I got, but I got mine in full copper. Just beware it's not very flexible and pretty microphonic. But I wear it inside my shirt with the zx300 in my pocket and it's fine. Good for the money for sure.

Stick with the ex1000s, the housing is made from magnesium. The ex800 housing is made from plastic and resonates, you'll be taking a few steps back.
The 800st is a reference DD, it is in fact not a step back but a different tone all together. The whole signature will be a step up especially pairing with CC Piccolino.

I have had both. The ex1000s are right up there with top tier iems, I sold my TG!334 and kept the ex1000s if that's any indication.

Definitely the EXK deserve the legend status , especially they were released all these years ago and still far more superior over a lot of TOTL iems.

I still kept my 800st and have the mmcx converter fitted to it, out of all the matching, the Piccolino is the one I preferred the most.

I agree, it's a classic legend, just like the EX484, I have the EX1000, EX600 and EX800ST, whiles the EX1000 and EX600 is a consumer base IEM, the EX800ST was position as a studio use version, and none of them are a step down from each other, but has a different sound stage, and it's up to the listener to pick what's right, for me I like the EX600, but they are all good.

Do you have the E4UA adapter/convertor.

BTW do you happen to know if the EX600 cable are 4 strands, and are compatible for balanced.

I
From eBay the whole stock of mdr ex1000 is sold out ?strange :frowning2:
I expected this to happen, but not that fast, they do have a used one, at USD 690, but there is a lot available, you just have to know where to buy, all Hong Kong Sony Centre has them available, but at retail price. You can also buy from Taobao at about half the prices, so far they haven't inflated yet, but you need a shipping agent to make the purchase, if outside China, Hong Kong and Macau and Gmarket has them.
