Today i received my balanced cable for the EX1000 and they sound amazing! I got a Pentaconn right angle 4.4mm plug from Japan and sent the original cable with the plug to Plussound. They were great and the cable looks amazing!

While I was waiting for the balanced cable for the EX1000, I bought a B-Stock Andromeda on 4th of July. So for the past few weeks I have been only using the Andromeda. Today I tried the EX1000 with the balanced cable and they were great! I was concerned that the Andromeda's would put the EX1000 to shame but I was wrong! They both complement each other because they are quite different in sound signature. The EX1000 is brighter and maybe more reference sounding. The Andromeda is more balanced and a tad more revealing. The soundstage might be a tad better on the EX1000 due to the vent. All in all, I'm very happy with both of these earphones.

Anyone else also using both the EX1000 and the Andromeda? If so, what are your thoughts?

My next step is to see if I can get a stock cable from the EX1000 or the Z5 and send it to Plussound to get a 4.4mm right angle plug on it. I really like the cable guides on the Sony cables!

currently using ex1k, ex800, z5, andro, fitear parterre, ee bravado and ety 3XR all with the zx300 or iphone/dragonfly red, each have their own speciality or genre(s) that they excel at, tho the andro and ety would be my daily out and about iems.

I have been away from HF forum for a long time. These days I don't use iem's that much, but whenever I do I am still amazed by the EX1000 for the sound.
I am an EX1000 user since April 2012, and still using the same pair after I got a 2nd pair a few yrs ago as backup pair.

The EX1000 is definitely the keeper for life of music. :)

My EX1000 from 2012 lost sound to the right channel today before I found the right tip cracked inside my ear lol. So decided to clean the nozzles and replace the tips. The nozzles were nasty and wrapped with sticky waste accumulated from ears. I had to use a paper clip to clean it off (still not completely) and replaced previously-replaced nozzle fill materials.

For EX1000, sealing is crucial to bring out what the iem's are capable of doing. In the past I found the large-size hybrid silicon tips worked the best for me. Since now that pair of tips are not available, I decided to try the stock foam tips (looked like large size) and it didn't work. Then I removed the foam from the tips and now they work as before.

My 6-years-old EX1000 is back to life again! Kudos to Sony for producing these iems not only sounding excellently but lasting resiliently.

I'm still looking for "reasonable" priced custom balanced cables for EX1000. The Null Audio set I purchased last year didn't have the correct thread connector. I may go Beat Audio Lab cable but is $$$. I
am testing Beat Audio by ordering a cable for my N5005. I just came across this on eBay.

I'm wondering if anyone have seen these, purchased, tried? Price is inexpensive enough where it wouldn't devestate me if the connector was slightly off like the NA.

Would it be over your budget getting a stock ex1000 cable from eBay (around $85) and once you receive it, you can send it to Plussound. They have all sorts of balanced connectors and their service fee for re-cabling the stock cable is very reasonable. That’s what I did and I’m very satisfied with it. Just make sure you get the cable that comes with the ex1000 from Japan and both the version that was sold in the US. RK-EX1000LP is the correct version.

Good luck finding a balanced cable you like!

do you know how to solder, you can purchased a stock cable (Japanese version RK EX1000) and the plugs are readly available.

Haven'the soldered anything since my Junior High days in Computers/Electronics Class option wor king with circuit boards. I should get on the YouTube and see if there''s info on soldering balanced terminations.

However, I think I may go this eBay route since price will be similar/cheaper than DYI once Sony cable + connector + solder equipment is all tallied up.

Now I need to decide on silver-plated or hybrid. Thoughts?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys!

My advice would be the stock Sony cable, as third party connectors aren't made perfect and can ruin the thread on the CIEM, no custom made cable companies have access to stock EX connectors, your second only option is get a adapter from this guy, http://e4ua.jp/?p=2825 as a one off payment, you can use any MMCX cable of your choice, and he uses the stock connectors.

This is the most up to date on his set price.

4000yen labour cost for each piece, total 8000yen for both Left and Right

5800yen for the EX parts

890yen for the MMCX parts

Total 14690yen (including tax 15865 yen)

This is for the matt black.

Optional cost

Glossy finish + 2000yen

Tone adjustment correspondence + 1500yen (including colors other than black, selection include, white, transparent, clear color and metallic type)

Metallic type requires glossy finish, + 2000yen and 1500yen

Shipping will be handled only by EMS in case of overseas shipping, shipping fee will vary depending on the area of residence. In addition, 1000 yen is separately paid as a packing / shipping fee.

We accept your quotation and enter the production queue by depositing via PayPal. Please note that payment with PayPal will cost 4% commission.

The total amount you will pay is "(Product fee + EMS shipping + packing · shipping fee) xPayPal payment commission 4%".
We have received 10 to 25 business days from the date we received payment and received confirmation. Currently it is shipping in around 10 business days

As I haven't had time to complete my custom built cable for the ex1000 with am actual pentaconn and the actual ex1000 connectors, I ordered that balanced ebay cable, will report back how I like it whenever it gets here from china. The one I'm building it's 8 core round braid 26gauge but I haven't had time to do more than the 2 4 wire braids past the ysplit. My plan was to dismantle the stock ex1000 connectors and use the tubing for the ear hooks as well. What's probably going to happen is I ruin the cable all together. I tend to think I'm more skilled than I am quite often, ending in more money spent and ruined products. Oh well, maybe I'll learn my lesson someday.

The silver-plated cable I ordered shipped several days ago. Hoping for the best as far as the EX1000 connectors go.

Ya I ordered the occ copper one, whenever I get it I'll just gently try and screw them on, if it gives any sign of not threading correctly I'll stop and try to return it. It's 60 bucks...not a killer. Wish I would have bought one from peterek before he stopped taking orders.

You can use the connectors on the short cable, since the short cable might not be used, at least I know I have two of them and it's never used.
