Still looking to answer some questions about this player.

1. Can the optical jack be used while the player is in battery mode?

2. Can the skip protection be turned off? (Is this effected by whether it is running on battery or wall power?)

Thanks

kelly,

With the G-Protection Sony PCDPs, the optical-out can be used when the PCDP is in battery mode, but the use of an AC wall-wart to power the PCDP is recommended if you intend to use the optical-out often.

Unfortunately, the D-EJ01, like the D-EJ815 and D-EJ915, has no G-Protection On/Off switch per se - but instead the switch is activated by the use of the Line/Optical Out jack. If anything at all whatsoever is plugged into that Line Out (Optical) jack, the rapid-laser-recovery portion of the G-Protection circuitry is turned off; if nothing is plugged into that jack, then the recovery is turned on. The linear ("non-compressed") electronic anti-skip buffer portion of the G-Protection system is always active, and can't be turned off.
