i have a friend who is giving me their old pair of MDR-E565. he wasn't even aware he still had it in the house until he found it the other day. the problem is that part of the cord (the necklace part) is melted away, exposing the wires inside. the rest of the earphones are in working condition (and sounds great).

my question is, is it possible to do a cord transplant? say... using my pair of MDR-E848lp as a donor cord for the MDR-E565? if so, that would be awesome!

i'm bringing it to the local Sony servicecenter tomorrow, hoping that it could be done. if not, anyone care to volunteer? i'll give you my pair of Koss Sportapros (i hardly ever touch these anymore) for the job. PM me!

cheers.

it shouldn't be that hard to replace the wire, but it all depens on the earbuds' design. (how they were put togather)
if there were glued togather, than i dont think you can open the buds unless you break them...
but if they were design to have the drivers replaceable, it should be a pice of cake. (i had done wire replacemets with my friends ex70 and awia HP-V161 earbuds...

can you please take some detailed pics of the buds? that would help a lot for us to decide if it'z do-able

Why not just put some heat shrink over the melted part?

i realized that this pair of E565 is beyond repair, i don't think my friend stored it well. i tried to take it apart, first by removing the rubber gasket at the drivers and the left phone almost fell apart! the gasket ripped and the driver fell out. oh well... i put them back together and the whole thing is being held together by the foamie. they still sound quite nice though. i'll just use them in the office, at least that will put less strain on my everyday E888.

thanks for the help guys.
