Hello fellow head-fiers, I just bought a pair of Sony DR-5A that are in mint condition and looks really great but can't try it ! The plug seems to be mono and I can't get it to fit in any of my gear (Fiio X5, Cellphone, Marantz HD-DAC1 or stack of Schiit). Anyone know why ?! Should I use an adapter from mono to stereo to make it work ?

Thanks a lot !

They shouldn't be mono.

You probably just need a 6.3mm - 3.5mm adapter.
(6.3mm female and 3.5mm male)

For example: http://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-Go-40635-Metallic/dp/B000O7F0PO/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1462545059&sr=8-17&keywords=6.3mm+adapter

Oh right.
Yeah - that certainly is mono and almost certainly not the stock plug.

I could be wrong, but it looks like a 2.5mm mono plug.  (simply measure the thickness with a ruler)
You could adapt it using a 2.5-3.5mm adapter if it is, but you'd still be stuck with mono.

It's a bit beyond a simple 'test', but nothing short of a re-termination (depending on the cable) or re-cable will achieve stereo.

It is definitely a 3,5mm plug but I think he chose a weird connector that just doesnt fit anywhere. I will try to change the connector to a standart 3,5mm stereo and will see if it works.

Thanks for adding your 2cents.
