hi, i ordered a pair of D66 Eggo from audiocubes about a week ago (still waiting), i have never been this happy. anyway, yesterday my friend bought a pair of blue Bose TriPort headphones, they sound pretty good to me, nice bass and clear sound. i like everything about the bose cept the build quality.

can anyone please give me some comparesion reviews on the Sony D66 Eggos and the Bose TriPort?

i kno the Sony D66 Eggo has outstanding reviews, i just want to know if i made the right chiose going with the D66 instead of TriPort.

thanks

I just took a long listen to the Bose Triports at a Best Buy the other day, with my MD portable, and I did the same some time ago at a Bose store. I think they have genuinely good sound. I thought the bass was just a little unclear somehow. However, I went home and threw on my Sennheiser HD 497s, and I thought the sound was similar but much better, for my taste. Still, with the Triports, you do get superior comfort compared to the HD 497s and excellent isolation. I have not heard the eggos, but people are comparing them favorably with the likes of Grados and Sennheisers, and people say they are quite comfrotable, and they cost a lot less than the Triports. I just couldn't stomach $150 bucks for hte triports when I paid $100 (after rebates) for the Sennheiser HD 580s, and $60 or $70 for the HD 497s.

I think the Triports are a nice choice if you're not too too picky about sound quality, don't mind overpaying for the truly good but not great sound you get, and if comfort and isolation are your top priorities. I think they are a legitimate choice for some people.

I'd spend my money on the eggos, though, especially since the comfort is apparently great and they do apparently offer some isolation, hitting the Triports where it hurts. Most people here place an unusually high priorty on sound quality and so would do the same

hey profinger--

when you receive your eggos, make sure to borrow your friend's triports and do a comparison. or lend him your eggos. i would be interested in hearing both your and your friend's comparisons -- to see if the triports really do sound like ass in your respective opinions. i've not heard the triports, but something tells me your friend is going to have buyer's remorse when you let him hear and see the price of the eggos.

remember, when they come from bose(r) they are "headsets", not "headphones".

after auditioning a good chunk of grado's sr line, i tried the triports. they did sound pretty incoherent and echo-y compared to the grados, especially for the price.

as one of the 1st eggo owners here, i can tell you that the eggos are much, much better at any price.

I agree with redshifter, when I tried the triports out at a Best Buy, the sound was really hollow. I haven't heard the D66 Eggos myself, but after reading so many positive reviews about them from other members here, you made the right decision.

Im starting to spot people in downtown San francisco wearing the triport. the thing that bugs me the most other than the price....are the thinness of the wires.

I read a lot about the triport in magazines and on other electornic web sites. Many uninformed and non-audiophile reviewers seem to over hype how well they perform. I guess that's because most of those people never listened to a nice pair of Senn's, Grado's, AGK's, or Beyerdynamic's. The Bose brand name is still a powerful brand name and the fact that they opened actual Bose dedicated stores in the shopping malls is proof of that.

plus bose's army of lawyers will sue the pants off anyone who gives a bose product a bad review.

I actually owned a pair of these for a while, and my problem with them is the "proprietary Bose equalization". They eat any kind of tone alteration you might want to make with your bass/treble/loudness controls, and they sound exactly the same regardless of what you've tried to adjust. That and the price were what made me return them - I didn't think the sound was that bad, although I thought it was kind of "thin" (whatever that means) on some of my discs. That, and the discovery of this infernal site, is what made me return them.

i thought the triports looked like two funky cereal bowls. they looked cheap.

now don't be dissin' the v6. that is a classic form factor for a smart, utilitarian design.
