Audiocubes describe the EJ985 and EJ885 as having a (5mw + 5mw) headphone-output. I did a search and no one actually commented on the quality of the hp-out of these players. Since there has been alot of grumbling about the weak hp-out of recent Sony pcdps, I am wondering how these two models, which seem to have a little more power, fare to you guys/gals who have heard them before.

Thanks.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Sony don't seem to be doing much R&D on the cd player side of things. There is less competition and higher profits to be made on the md scene - especially in Japan.

I agree heartily with this...

Its almost like MD being the relative dead horse that it was... didn't want to be a failure... so Sony boosted the amps in the MD players, and used cheap ones in their CD players...

Most consumers would listen to a personal CD player and think it sounded crappy... listen to an MD and be blown away... wahoo... another MD owner on board...
