I have had the Sony D-E350 for about 6 months now. So for I'm pleased with it, other then its audio output. I always have blamed it on crappy headphones that came with it.

I was wondering if upgrading to the Koss KSC-55 would make things any better?
Is there anything else I can do?

Thanks

Most likely the headphones and discman both suck. But upgrading your headphones is the first step. That'll do much more for you than buying a better discman since there's really no point with stock headphones.

Buy some KSC-35's, you'll be amazed.

Any other headphones in that price range that would be worth looking into.

Thanks

As far as I know, www.koss.com is the only place selling them other than ebay. They're back for a short time as a limited offer - KSC-35's were previously discontinued.

edit: Oh, and I dare anyone on this board to find a better headphone for $30

There simply isn't one.

First, its anti-skip is always compressed, with no uncompressed option. (The only other option with that player is no anti-skip at all whatsoever, but the D-E350 will skip like mad without anti-skip even when the lid is lightly touched.) The player sounds horrible with the anti-skip enabled - and even then, its anti-skip is much less effective at preventing skipping than many other anti-skip systems. (That's what you'd get for going with ESP Max instead of G-Protection, FWIW.)

Second, there is no line-out at all whatsoever - and its headphone-out is quite mediocre in quality.

Third, there is no pause control at all, and the Play and Skip Forward/Fast Forward functions are combined into a single button (Sony remotes for higher-end CD and MD Walkmans are like that, as well). But that's partly made up for the Resume feature (which cannot be turned off at all), which resumes play at the exact spot where you've stopped playback.

Fourth, (and the biggest drawback) is its reliability: Many of those low-end Sonys are known to fail or break just after the 90-day labor warranty had expired. And when that happens, Sony will charge you as much as a new unit just to even look at the player.

I haven’t had a single problem with skipping. I can put it into my pocket and walk around without the ESP on.

Other then that…… I do not like controls; as you have described.

Yes, they use the same drivers but the fit affects the sound a lot. Apparently the 55's clench rather tight, being of the "streetstyle" design, and sound more bassy as a result.

Of the Koss phones I've tried (portapro, sportapro, & ksc-35's) I think ksc-35's are the most balanced and best sounding of the bunch.

I think I"m getting ready to order a pair. Just trying to figure out who I'm going to order them from.
