about 7 or so years ago i picked up this 5 disc sony for use with a receiver....the receiver (Aiwa...argh) ate the big one years ago, and i recently dug out the CDP from "storage" (reclaimed from friend). Unfortunately, i dont have decent enough interconnects to make an informed evaluation, but it seems like with the right setup this player could be somewhat decent. uses sony's "hybrid pulse" DAC, which i know very little about and have been able to find very little info on, even on headfi.
anyone out there know anything about this player or the DAC in it? i know several other sonys use the same technology...i cant help but think maybe its not the cables that are making the thing sound kinda crappy...did some comparisons with my other sources, and if i ignore the noise in the signal, it seems like the sound coming out of this thing has potential. but, like i said, hard to make an informed evaluation until cables get here.
