anyone heard both on similar amps (stuff like RKV II) and can compare them?
i can see the K-1000 rests above the ear - can it hurt or stop blood from flowing?

First off, the K1000s are very comfy for me. They do not exert any pressure at all.
As for sound comparison, I would say that, with the RKV, the K1000s exhibit more high end energy than the CD3000s, while the CD3000s have more and deeper bass. To my ears, though, the details award goes to the K1000s, as does the soundstage size. Overall smoothness goes to the Sonys. Very different presentations, and both are very pleasurable.

I bought my pair used from a fellow Head-Fier awhile ago. I searched all over for the best price, and found a guy on e-Bay who was selling for $449. I believe he's up to $500 now. As far as I can tell, Headroom and Meier Audio have prices comparable to what others are selling them for. Maybe you could contact both and see what shipping would be. Or post a WTB in the For Sale Forum. Good luck.

Head size is 57 cm (7 1/4"). Listening in a quiet environment is a necessity with the K1000s.
PS: Man, you've got it bad, Adam!

CD3000 is good upgrade/alternative to HD600 in my opinion. K1000 doesn't replace anything nor get replaced. It's just unique. Either choice isn't wrong. Enjoy your CD3000s

I'm in agreement with Bob's impressions using an RKV with the K-1000's and RKV with Imprdanzer for the CD3000's. Very different presentations, both of which are very enjoyable. I'd suggest that you buy your K-1000's before selling your CD3000's so you can to the A/B comparisons yourself.

BTW, my head size is quite large - about 8 1/4" and the K-1000's do put enormous pressure on my temples. I simply can't take it after just one CD!!! Yet, I love the sound so much that I wouldn't consider selling them. I've been trying to bend out the orange frames slightly but no matter how much pressure I put on them with my bare hands, they will not budge. I'm afraid to use more force but may have to wrap them in a towel and give them a tap or two with a hammer... kind of scary.
