Sony budget earphone discussion thread (MH750, MH755, MH1C, EX300, etc)

@brianforever , can you confirm my understanding as follows:

1) MH755 and MH750 are the same except the 755 has a shorter cable with no mic and the 750 has a cable with a mic.

2) The only sound differences come from whether the earphones are a side or center-vent model and both the 755 and 750 can come in either configuration. The center-vent models have more bass than the side-vent models (please let me know any other sound signature differences).

3) The 755 came out before the 750.

4) Both the 755 and 750 can come in either black (black tips) or white (orange tips).

5) The most common way to tell if your 755/750 is authentic is by seeing whether they have the 2 solder dots on the back of the driver.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of the above.

if i am not wrong, MH755 is an accessory of Sony bluetooth player, that's why it is so short

Yes, the Sony MH755 was originally incorporated with some sony BT adapters like SBH 24 and others in the series.

These BT adapters were designed to be clipped near the shirt or something along those lines. Hence the J shaped short cable.

It is only cause some audiophiles discovered the great sound of the MH755 and recommended it on forums that people started sourcing for the MH755 on its own.

Yes, that's about correct, also the trebles are more aggressive on the side vented drivers, making it more sparkling and shimmery,

thus why some might find it a bit shouty, whereas the center vented drivers have a more controlled sub/mid-bass with its slightly recessed treble, but still maintaining its clarity on the vocals

Also from initial A/B testing, this might not be obvious, but as we move into a change in the music genre, it becomes quite evident, thus why the need to collect the different variants, for our listening pleasures, as both has its magical sound signatures and vibes :)

My own preferences in this order = MH750/755 ( Center Vent) - MH750/755 ( Side Vent) - MH1

Could someone clarify what a center vent versus a side vent looks like.

My MH755 has a vent on the top, where the two parts of the case for together. I assume this is center vented?

I really never seen tips exactly like them. They are slightly softer, without an harder inlay, and tjey have a slightly different design from all the other tips. Which size of the three fits your ear?
I use the smallest ones. Although it fits my ear, the design is also distinct as the larger tips are a more spherical shape. What's interesting is that Sony decided to change the tip design for the tips included with the MH750 from the ones included with the MH755.

probably center vent, since you have already popped it up, you can tell from the "black label with one dot" by yourself i guess

this one is side vent

Here's a few tips for those who are looking for genuine MH750 or MH755 (I prefer to teach a man to fish rather than give fish)

1, dont buy frome the cheapest or the most popular ones

2, dont buy from buyers who hide or imply sony logo/name instead, like this

3, Look for buyers who have NOT ONLY the black one which are the same as most counterfeit as of 2021 (Maybe there are counterfeits of white one with orange ear tips, I am not quite sure). Look for buyers who have MH755 with multiple color of ear tips instead which seems more legit

4, dont trust solely on review, check what else the seller is selling. if you see he/she sells earphones from big brands with significantly lower price, just avoid it. in my cases, the seller who only sell lots of sony accessory like usb, earphone

I am not going to post the link directly of the seller, whose link is actually on the image above, as i have no relations with him or whatsoever

heres a few info of how to distinguish real or fake from the seller, i am not sure whether it is right or not. let me translate it and hope it is helpful

the filter of real ag0503 should be all black (some other model may not be the case)

1631481879412.png

the ce tag of real ones is more clear with more details

1631481923970.png

newer versions of MH755 dont have CE tag along the cable (by new, I am not sure, maybe made after 2015)

for new version of MH755, there is a mark of MH755 on the cable crossroad (not sure what to call it)

the cable of AG0500 is harder, filter is black with white dot

the cable of AG0501 is softer, filter is all black

So further to my grill change i'm noticing some hotness (distortion?) in the treble now. Any suggestions to tamp it down a bit? More foam in the nozzle? I have some stock bl-03 grills with the little foam backing on them. Will try those.
Hey, I had a channel imbalance too in the vocal region and discovered that it was the mesh causing it by swapping them from drivers. It seems that spraying isopropyl alcohol into my grills have solved this, but who knows I said the same thing after removing the dampening foam, I will be paying attention if it returns but maybe give it a try.
This is the measurement I took which shows the imbalance, (just don't pay attention to the actual frequency response) it certainly sounded like one driver had more clarity and vocals were more present from one side.

Maybe tomorrow I will remeasure after having spayed the grills and see if there is no imbalance, but for now I will just not worry about it and enjoy them :).

from my experience with them, audio channel imbalances are very common, due to the fact that some of them are manufactured as early as 2013, and has been kept in storage since then, it normally goes away after a few days or weeks of usage as the drivers needed some warming up, which solves it most of the time :)

After so many different types and colors of the 750/755 I was able to hear and test, it seems I was very lucky. I never had a channel imbalance in any case. It really wonders me, after so many reports in the net about that issue.

your the lucky ones..but it's a number game due to its large takeup volumes globally and popularity, as there are incidences including myself of this happening

I don't think it's a problem with the drivers, but with the tunning materials/method or maybe the aging of the tunning materials. It's been a year since I had mine and the imbalance developed suddenly, removed the mesh and found the dampening foam in one of the drivers destroyed so I tried to use silverstone foam I had around from modding my headphones but it was very hard to not cause channel imbalances (I never got it right), so I just left them without foam. I didn't think the mesh was responsible for my channel imbalance but I guess it makes sense, but weird it never happened to other of my IEMs.
This morning I remeasured after testing my 750s, I listened to music and watched netflix and vocals were dead center, even after changing the channel of drivers, I had to know for sure that it was fixed this time, so here it is :D. Don't pay attention to the bass region, it's kinda hard to get a proper seal.

1. No, depends on which generation of the 755 and 750, they can be the same or not. Early 750 is not the same as 755.
3. No, 750 came out before 755. I haven't seen any Sony Ericsson 2012 MH 755.
