How can you tell the difference between a black mh755 and mh750? Looking at pictures it seems the shells are the same

I don’t recommend going thicker though, as if you don’t know what you’re doing you will drastically change the sound tuning. You want a wire that fits tight with the stock wire strain relief, so it doesn’t turn the strain relief into an additional bass vent.

Anyways, I still feel the easiest and safest way is to just recable the stock cable. It preserves the stock sound tuning, is easier/cheaper to do than removable jacks, and it is much more serviceable down the road (is to replace the cable when it goes bad). It’s also the lightest option, as the mmcx jacks combined with the mmcx plugs on the cable add a noticeable amount of weight which can actually work the earphones loose during listening sessions.

That’s why I keep recommending recabling instead of dealing with all of the mmcx headaches. Mmcx sounds like a cool idea, and it is useful on some IEMs because you can change out a cable when a cable goes bad. But the MH755 is so ridiculously easy to open up and solder on a new cable yourself, you could change out a cable in 10 minutes whenever it goes bad down the road.

Quoting these because they align with my own experience. Trying to get fat braided cables through the stock strain relief is difficult. The strain relief can be trimmed if you need a little wiggle room. A thicker cable will also require a bigger strain relief knot inside the shell, which may impact the sound. I tried MMCX as well and also found it to be a headache (adding weight and filling up the shell).

I have ordered some "DIY replacement cables" and they have been a mixed bag. They all work great and were easy to install but several had a heavy (PVC?) protective coat that made them inflexible and loud. My go-to approach now is to order some affordable KZ cables, snip the connectors off, and then tin the wires. If you have a cable you already like from another pair, you can most likely find an one-for-one replacement on Ali that you can snip and use for the Sony.

My $0.02 in the event it helps someone.

I patched my MH755 today. I wanted to thank you guys, I followed the advices found in this thread.
I preferred recabling instead of dealing with the female MMCX.
Finally, no sound issue at all, I was a bit worried before the first test, I'm far from a soldering specialist.
The most difficult part was the soldering itself because of the size of the speakers...I used a magnifying glass.
I had to cut a bit the white tips to put the cables in. I also should have painted one of the tip to mark the right side but I just put a dot inside with a marker.
Following the advice I found here, I bought the MH755 on ebay there :

and the cable on Aliexpress :

Nice job. Those look great!

Also, you made the right choice on recabling. If you thought soldering to the drivers was hard because of the small size, the mmcx connectors would have blown your mind because they're about 1/4 the size haha

Zishan Z1 > Xduoo XQ-10 > Sony MH755 with Olive KZ cables + SREM. The MH755 really do well with some added juice from the tiny amp, and with the wide SREM tips, the stage is wider, has cleaner trebles and with a bit of the push from the XQ-10, the bass is punchy and solid. I'm using the M sized KZ starlines as i found them to fit better on the MH755 compared to the rest of my IEMs which i am using the narrow bore dome shaped tips.

Anw i always had problem differentiating the L and R side (the wording is small, even reversing the neck to show the side outwards doesnt help) so i just used red and blue ballpoint pen to colour the neck. It was smudging hence i used some rubbing alcohol to remove then and now they look pretty damn good!

These just arrived:

Can't start modding until the MMCX plugs get here, so for now I'm just enjoying them as is. Didn't even verify if they're original or not, but they sure sound good. The eBay seller I got these from has got 100% positive feedback, so I'm not really worried.

Look legit, just like mine. Smooth, good balance, good dynamics, good warmth, good air, voices right there, good imaging, bass with good control and not too punchy, somewhat power hungry, though. Very musical!

Step 1: instant recabling...I used a 80 cm male-female extension for $2.99 from aliexpress [Rock brand as in "Rock Zircon"].

Step 2: Pulling out the ole Sony XBA-C10, a 2013 model.

The XBA-C10 made the "best of" lists of 2014. Superficially, it sounds almost identical to the MH755 but is easier to drive, although not by much. Some claimed the XBA-C10 were the best Sony earphones at the time...which is a bit far fetched in my opinion.

I'm pretty sure they're the real deal. Opened them up and compared to what Slater said few posts back. All boxes checked!

And what I wasn't aware of: the XBA-C10 sport a single BA...but they sound like a DD.

I am presently listening to Schubert piano sonatas focusing on treble resolution: a $150 1+1 vs. the $5 Sony MH755. Hmmm...irritating considering the price difference, but how can I get away giving the win to the cheapo?

If a hype train is ever warranted, then it must be this cheapest of all trains.

Dunno if anyone else has seen these yet, but the RY Earphone store on Aliexpress has the best price and selection I've seen on female mmxc sockets.

I'm wondering if B or C would work to mod the MH755.

Edit: just realized I left these on burn in, one pair is at 260+ hours and the other 320+. Oops. Not that it'll hurt them.
