Many of the vintage Sony pcdp's used the Sony BP-2EX battery for portable power. How likely is a ten-year-old specimen to be viable? Supposedly was not used much. Thanks for the input.

Cannot answer about this particular battery, but generally rechargeable cells have a limited life. 10 years is a bit old. Depending on how it was stored you can expect enything from getting 50-80% capacity to nothing. My guess would be that even if you get a good charge initially the capacity will drop fairly fast.
What kind of chemistry is it? Ni based cells are generally better. Li-based ones die in 2-4 years without use

From my personal experiences, any original battery that came with a vintage player is usualy DOA. You can still pick them online for around 30 or so dollars the last time I checked.

Sure, here is the replacement battery that I ordered and has been working perfectly. Not a sony, but works fine.....

I ordered mine a while back, so I don't know if they still carry it. It's still listed though......

Or here's a better price on that particular battery:

They accept Paypal, and ship VERY quickly (I ordered an LIP-12 for my MZ-R30 on Saturday and got it Monday morning!)
