After being undersold and beat by Nintendo in sales 6 to 1.

Sony announces a price drop.

Who's getting one now?

$500 doesn't look too bad... but I'll wait til it hits $400 to really consider it. (and for the "homebrew" community to finally hack the thing) Also, rumble shall one day return, new and improved: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/03/n...bling-sixaxis/

It looks like the underwhelming PS3 sales are finally getting to Sony.

Still not worth it.

MS will follow suit and drop the 360 by $50. I'm sure MS wanted to wait a bit longer, but I've read they have been turning a profit on hardware for a while. It is still too much money for what it is, and needs to come down another $100.

Not with all the returns. They just took an $85 accounting hit for every Xbox 360 sold due to the breakdown rate. Nintendo's been making money off of hardware since launch.

Either way, the PS3 doesn't need price drops. It needs games.

x2, Sony lost almost everything to XBox. They need something fresh to stand a chance against the Halo 3 rush that XBox is going to get.

Halo could quite possibly be one of the most dull and repetitive games ever

Anyways the console is worth the price but for the masses to buy it it will need that $400 or below price to really take off.

I think 'the masses' have spoken and went with the Wii...it's not just price that's keeping the PS3 down. For hardcore gamers the 360 provides better value and the Wii is truly innovative for all types of gamers. The PS3 doesn't have a niche.

I always thought PS3's biggest competitor was the PS2.

Xbox360 had a one year head start, right? Once the the PS3 is hacked, better games are released, and the PS2 is finally axed, the system will definitely begin selling.

True, but if it follows the path of it's predecessor, it'll end up with a lot of third party support and weird japanese rpgs. (although the fact the PS3 is harder to develop could lessen this) I think the PS3 is more targeted towards the casual single-player gamer, but the high cost and inclusion of blu-ray (which quite a few folks really don't care for) is counterproductive.
