This is my first post here. I came from T-board. I just opened a box and can't close it anymore.

In furture, I will plan to buy a headphone that around US$100. It will be portable use more than home ( I use it at home and walk around. It is kind if semi portable

). Also, I might forward to buy amp for the headphone( I think I can't afford that yet. )

Isolation is important that I use it to focus on working ( see my signature )

and don't want to annoy my future roomate. So what will you suggest to buy? ( I might need my N505 to drive it without amp for a long period of time. )

2nd Questions, I read some of the headphone review and posts. I noticed MDR-V6 might be the one. However, why MDR-V700DJs seemed to be kicked out of people's mind? What were the different between V6/V7506, V700DJs, V600, V7505? I likeed how V600 and V700DJs look. Could anyone provide some pics of those phones? ( Seems like I am a big fan of SONY )

3rd Questions, I found out Fly's was selling V6 for almost $90 ( I think most people has knew that already) , and some of them were $60 something in the net.

In the serach of the internet, I found out V7506 like $120+. If they were the same thing, why the prices are different?

1) Get a V6.

2) You like the way the V600 looks? Looks plain and plasticy to me. The V700 always seemed kinda 'stubby' to me, and still plasticy. The V6, OTOH, is plain, but it's got a sturdy metal look, and it's a bit more compact. Overall my favorite, although others will disagree. (awaits rebuttal from team shiny-pretty phones) BTW, if you want to see what they look like on actual people, go watch Howard Stern. Those are 7506's they're wearing.

3) Get the ~$60 ones.

The 7506 is the 'professional' version of the V6. The difference is that the 7506 has a gold-plated plug, a better warranty than the V6, and a blue sticker instead of a red one. For most people, these three things aren't worth the extra cost.

If I'm not mistaken, Frasier also wears Sony V6/7506.

, but I really want to hear about how horrible the V700 is. In T-board some people say it is a good phone. In here is another story.

Oh oh, I almost forget to ask. When did V6 come out? Seems like someone got it in early 1988 something? I think V700 will be later than V6, right?

Okay, okay. The V700DJ is mid-bass heavy, and is lacking in detail across the range. Also, despite the boomy mid-bass, the V700DJ lacks real bass extension. And the thin, brittle plastic covers over the swivel joints is likely to crack and/or fail prematurely.

Overall, the V700DJ is not worth anywhere close to the $150 price some retailers sell it for. In fact, it's not worth even half the price.

(Oh, why oh why did Sony make its newer models more cheaply in overall quality yet still charge a higher price for them?)

The V6's have been out for a long time, and have gained a good reputation in the recording/sound industry. They are built tough and can last a long time. The V700's were released much later, and while they have more modern looks (which means they are silver... funny how modern fluctuates between silver and black... modern stuff was silver in the 70's too), it does not mean that they sound better than the V6's. I do not know too much about the sturdiness of the V700's. Ask magicthyes -- he used to own a pair before losing a boy-girl battle (boys always lose those, don't they?).

If you are simply a casual listener, or do not care about audio-fidelity to an obsessive degree, the V700's might make you happy. But I think you should try the V6's out and then also try the V700's out so you can make the judgment for yourself. The value of high-fidelity is a very subjective thing indeed, and one that ultimately should be made up by the person listening to the headphones.

Eagle_Driver : Strange didn't it? Did they got any improvement in 10 years on Headphone? Oh how many Omega is the V6? I couldn't find any sepcirific information off it.

In T-board, I learned less Impedance good for portable to drive it withour amp and the phone need to have as many Sensitivity as they can. However, you needed to trust your ear for the final result. Am I right? If I had an amp, will this all be different? I noticed most of the phones mentioned in the board are about 100 +2-2 dB or something.

The V6 looks nearly identical to the 7506. So if you've seen it on Howard Stern, then you've seen it.

The impedance on the V6 is pretty low, meaning most any source will be able to drive it pretty well. I believe it's around 60 ohms or something like that (maybe even lower). With either the V6 or V700, an amplifier might help a little bit, but there won't be that much of a difference. They sound good right out of the source and an amp won't help too much.

P.S: You guys spent a lot of money on audio, but still much cheaper than follow the trend of the Stereo System. I am a poor Azn boy just came here last year. I'm borke haha

The V6/7506 weighs in at around 60 ohms. Note that impedance isn't a perfect rule regarding how well low-power sources will drive them, it's more of an imprecise estimate. Nor is impedance a real measurement of sound quality.
